The Security Software Engineer II will have a direct impact on increasing the value our customers receive from our products and services. You will enhance security across our products and services and support critical existing security tools while partnering with product engineering teams to research, brainstorm, and prototype ways to keep AppFolio customers secure. Responsibilities
Deliver quality software on time, using agile development practices to collaborate, prioritize, and deliver projects at a rapid pace. Develop new software features that solve security-related challenges within AppFolio products. Find innovative ways to scale security capabilities at AppFolio. Support research by gathering data metrics and adopting tools/technologies where needed. Take accountability for the quality of your code, implement secure coding practices, and follow a test-driven development methodology. Exercise good judgment in seeking technical guidance when needed. Promote a strong security engineering culture. Qualifications
BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 3 years of software development experience in multiple languages, including Ruby and TypeScript. Experience with cloud environments (AWS), Docker, and software development best practices. Experience wearing many hats (frontend React, backend Rails, devops, QA, UX). Familiarity with the OWASP Top 10 security risks and remediation techniques. Must have
Ability to build security-oriented features from requirements. Desire to think outside the box and a growth mindset. Ability to work autonomously with high collaboration when working with product development teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Location
Santa Barbara, CA (location details on our site) Compensation & Benefits
The compensation this role pays is typically $114,400 - $143,000 base pay, determined by factors including skills, education, experience, and internal equity. This range does not include additional benefits or discretionary bonuses. Regular full-time employees are eligible for benefits. About AppFolio
