Overview
A client of ours in the energy industry is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented
Controller
to lead the company's accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity of financial information and compliance with regulatory standards in a fast-paced energy environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in corporate accounting, preferably within the energy or utilities sector, and must hold an
active CPA license . Base pay range
$120,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulatory requirements (FERC, SOX, SEC, etc. if applicable).
Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
Coordinate annual audits with external auditors and ensure proper documentation and support.
Develop and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Partner with the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
Support project accounting, joint ventures, or energy asset reporting, as applicable.
Oversee accounting systems and recommend upgrades or process improvements.
Mentor and develop accounting team members to support the department's goals and career growth.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Active CPA license
is
required .
Minimum of
7 years of progressive accounting experience , with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of
GAAP
and experience with
internal controls and audits .
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience in the
Oil & Gas ,
energy, utilities, or renewables
industry is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm).
Experience with
FERC accounting ,
project-based accounting , or
energy trading .
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA.
Familiarity with regulatory reporting or compliance in the energy sector.
