General Practice Dentistry Preceptor (full time) JOB SUMMARY : The General Practice Dentistry Preceptor is responsible for providing students with training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing, and the actual treatment of their assigned patients.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Advise students on when consultations in various specialties of dentistry are needed.
Follow LECOM SDM Standardization manual and clinic manual.
Supervise dental students in the LECOM Dental Group Practices.
Demonstrate excellent communication and patient interpersonal skills to instruct students on selecting, obtaining, and interpreting patient data for comprehensive assessments of diverse patient populations.
Provide basic clinical training in the following disciplines: Oral Diagnosis, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Operative Dentistry, Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics, Pediatrics, Orthodontics, and Geriatrics.
Attend meetings approved by SDM that advance the profession.
Supervise and manage a 10-15 chair patient practice area; maintain patient flow in collaboration with faculty and students.
Take direction and assignments from the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education or other management personnel.
Be available for work during assigned hours for student instruction and practice development.
Contribute to overall student success, including advising and student outcomes.
Contribute to LECOM’s mission by embodying Osteopathic Principles and Practices and participating in institutional fundraising and scholarship activities.
Engage in scholarly activity to enrich student learning and represent LECOM in the community (e.g., boards, fundraisers, outreach).
Accept other duties needed or assigned for practice needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Must possess the knowledge to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Computer experience and ability to enter data in axiUm or equivalent systems; knowledge of ADA coding and patient relations and scheduling.
Compliance with State and Federal regulations and safety protocols; knowledge of patient/student privacy (HIPAA, FERPA).
OSHA safety guidelines; protect equipment; strong communications skills; computer literacy (MS Office); accurate data entry; excellent organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish effective working relationships; flexibility to accept additional duties as needed.
Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others in a diverse workplace and comply with EEO rules and regulations.
Ability to report to work as scheduled and respond to work directives from managers and supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education and experience equivalent to: General dentist with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from a U.S. dental school required; teaching experience in dental academia preferred. Five (5) years or more of experience practicing general dentistry required. Advanced training in a hospital-based GPR or AEAD residency preferred. The successful candidate must have a current Florida dental license or be able to obtain a Florida dental teaching permit.
