Overview
Summary: Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the staff Podiatrist treats a variety of foot and ankle ailments, including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems, as well as foot and leg problems associated with diabetes and other diseases. The position ensures podiatry is coordinated with other clinical departments to provide patients with a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The position may serve as coach/mentor/trainer to other clinicians and clinical support staff. Reports to Chief Medical Officer or designee. Practices podiatry within state laws and the policies of Gracelight.
Responsibilities
Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and values.
Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
Performs all job functions professionally and courteously, including answering general phone calls timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Supervises personnel, including screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining and terminating. Guides, directs, disciplines, coaches and motivates staff to meet work standards. Conducts supervision in a professional, consistent and objective manner.
Performs job duties independently and exercises good judgment.
Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.
Assesses the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing medical history, listening to concerns and performing a physical examination as needed.
Diagnoses foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through local examination, x-rays, medical laboratory tests, and other methods.
Provides treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing orthotics to improve a patient’s mobility.
Performs ambulatory foot and ankle surgeries and corrections within the scope of outpatient practice.
Gives advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and on general wellness techniques and prescribes medications as needed.
Refers patients to other physicians or specialists if larger health problems are detected (e.g., diabetes).
Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine by attending trainings and conferences and reading related material.
Provides podiatric support, counseling, and education in the management of common acute and chronic podiatric illnesses.
Makes recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action where appropriate.
Consults complex and high-priority cases with the director, assistant director or physician on duty or with a specialist as needed.
Works as a member of the health care team and assists in education of patients and the community in preventive health care and health maintenance concepts.
Demonstrates pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.
Attends internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and participates on task forces or committees, as necessary and/or required by TVHC, Inc.
Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.
Demonstrates commitment to, and understanding of, TVHC's Service Excellence Standards, by modeling service excellence in all internal and external relationships.
Provides additional assistance within and outside of clinical arena, as requested and/or as appropriate, to ensure the ongoing success of the organization.
Must be willing and able to work at all locations as needed to meet patient care needs and to work all business hours including evenings and weekends.
Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Licensed Podiatrist in the State of California (or eligible to practice per state laws) and in good standing.
Experience in diagnosing and treating foot and ankle ailments; surgical and non-surgical skills appropriate for outpatient podiatry.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with other departments.
Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence.
