Overview SUMMARY: Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the staff Podiatrist treats a variety of foot and ankle ailments including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems as well as foot and leg problems associated with diabetes and other diseases. These responsibilities include ensuring that podiatry is coordinated with the other clinical departments of Gracelight Community Health (Gracelight) in providing patients with a Patient Centered Medical Home. The position also serves as coach/mentor/trainer to other clinicians and clinical support staff, giving guidance in best practices, troubleshooting of medical services and operations related to Podiatry. The position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer or designee. As staff Podiatrist, the incumbent will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of podiatry, within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Health, and the policies of Gracelight.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and values.
Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner, including answering general phone calls timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Supervises personnel including screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining and terminating; guides, directs, disciplines, coaches and motivates staff to meet work standards; conducts supervision professionally and objectively.
Performs job duties independently and exercises good judgment.
Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.
Assesses the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing medical history, listening to concerns and performing physical examinations as needed.
Diagnoses foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through local examination, x-rays, laboratory tests, and other methods.
Provides treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing orthotics to improve mobility.
Performs ambulatory foot and ankle surgeries and corrects foot and ankle deformities within the scope of outpatient practice.
Provides advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and general wellness techniques; prescribes medications as needed.
Refers patients to other physicians or specialists if larger health problems are detected, such as diabetes.
Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine by attending trainings and conferences and reading related material.
Provides podiatric support, counseling, and education in the management of common acute and chronic podiatric illnesses.
Makes recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action where necessary or appropriate.
Consults complex and high-priority cases with the director, assistant director or physician on duty or with a specialist as needed.
Works as a member of the health care team and assists in education of patients and the target community in preventive health care and health maintenance concepts.
Demonstrates pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.
Attends internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and participates on task forces or committees as necessary and/or required by TVHC, Inc.
Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.
Demonstrates commitment to TVHC's Service Excellence Standards by modeling service excellence in all relationships and addressing deficits as needed.
Provides additional assistance within and outside of the clinical arena to ensure ongoing success of the organization.
Must be willing and able to work at all locations as needed to meet patient care needs.
Must be willing and able to work all business hours including evenings and weekends.
Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications Education/Experience
Completion of an accredited four-year post-graduate degree program, earning a Doctor of Podiatry (DPM) degree required.
Licensure by the California Board of Podiatric Medicine to practice in the State of California required.
Minimum of three years’ clinical work experience and two years’ experience managing a multi-provider practice preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures, benefits information, and routine mail. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Mathematical & Reasoning Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts; apply concepts of algebra and geometry; apply common sense in problem solving and decision making.
Other Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates ability and flexibility to work in other areas of the organization as needed.
Adheres to company’s policies and procedures.
Current, valid Podiatrist license in California; current DEA license and CPR required.
Knowledge of management, supervisory functions and compliance standards; maintains safe work environment.

Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision; leadership and diplomacy skills.
Ability to manage time, maintain confidentiality, and build trust with patients and staff.
