$271,320 - $345,840 Annually for the TSM.1 Level This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. We have an opening for a Superblock Engineering Capabilities Architect with responsibilities for leading a large technical team, executing a diverse portfolio of technical projects within the Superblock, a DOE Hazard Category 2 nuclear facility. You will interact with all levels of management within, and external to the Superblock to establish a wide range of projects, develop budgets, and manage execution. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) within the Engineering Directorate. Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week. You will
Provide technical leadership and direction to all Superblock design portfolio managers, in an organization with a project scope of approximately $70M and a workforce of 70 FTE, in their planning, execution, and delivery of a diverse mix of engineering projects across all phases (initiation, design, installation, readiness assessments, turnover to operations, and decommissioning), monitoring performance to meet programmatic milestones and deliverables, leading corrective actions where necessary, and ensuring activities are conducted safely and efficiently. Plan strategically by using broad latitude and independent judgment in collaborating with engineering, project management, and scientific teams to develop short and long-range strategies to meet current and future facility needs, execute technical and administrative goals, and ensure programmatic excellence, compliance, and risk management, while fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. Oversee financial planning and resource allocations for operations and project activities, developing and managing budgets and resources to meet key performance, cost, and schedule activities. Serve as subject matter expert and technical contributor/leader on projects and assignments, providing strategic technical advice and solutions to highly complex, and sensitive problems, resolving conflicts, performing in-depth analysis of multiple factors, and developing, exerting influence, and gaining acceptance of innovative methods and technologies and project changes. Determine, understand, and manage staffing needs, and strategically invest in personnel to develop an agile, motivated, and well-trained workforce, ensuring the highest-quality personnel are recruited and retained. Coordinate with functional leads (engineering, operations, maintenance, procurement) to ensure adequate resources and balanced support for execution of multi-million-dollar projects. This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire. Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field such as Mechanical, Structural, Electrical or Civil Engineering, or related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. Expert level skills and extensive experience effectively building, motivating, and leading large, multi-disciplinary teams of technical and scientific staff on nuclear weapon engineering projects or within nuclear facility engineering programs. Extensive experience managing and leading a significant (multi-million-dollar) technical portfolio, and a demonstrated ability to successfully deliver impactful results. Expert level skills and extensive experience in utilizing project management and systems engineering principles and tools for program execution in workforce planning, scheduling, cost estimating, budget management, risk mitigation, and reporting. Expert level communication, facilitation, collaboration, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills at the technical level necessary to direct an organization, lead innovative research, advise senior management, and provide strategic technical guidance. Qualifications We Desire
Advanced degree in engineering or a related technical field. Detailed understanding of nuclear facilities and operations in a high hazard environment and governing regulatory requirements. Significant experience fostering productive relationships with other divisions, directorates, laboratories, and other institutions across the Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise, and external advisors and reviewers.
