Overview
Armed Security Police Officers (SPOs) perform duties in accordance with the Post Orders prepared by the Office of Safety and Security for all shifts on each post. Duties include security screening, access control, and related security operations as described below. Responsibilities
Access Control Package Screening (X-Ray Machine) Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers) Traffic Control Visitor processing Vehicle inspection Communications and dispatching Patrol Operations Emergency and event response Correctly attired in uniform, equipment, and grooming Qualifications
Must be a United States Citizen Minimum of 1 year of experience in law enforcement, or security, or a combination of both Possess a high school diploma or equivalency; collegiate coursework or an AA/AS degree is preferred Current SPO (Armed) license issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB) Pass suitability determination SPO shall carry a current 9mm Caliber Semiautomatic Pistol, “Qualified” card signed and dated by a certified firearms instructor Certified to carry and shall carry Pepper Spray (Oleoresin Capsicum) Possess a current “CPR/First Aid” card issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Education & Certification Requirements
