Overview

We’re seeking an experienced and forward-thinking indirect tax professional to partner with senior leadership in managing all aspects of sales and use tax, personal and real property tax, and other indirect tax obligations. This individual will play a key role in ensuring compliance, supporting audits, and identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement. The ideal candidate will oversee the coordination, review, and accuracy of tax return filings prepared by external providers, ensure timely payments, and maintain adherence to evolving tax regulations affecting the retail sector. This role requires strong collaboration across internal teams and external advisors, as well as hands-on involvement in tax research, reconciliations, planning, and reporting. Key Responsibilities

Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Serve as the main liaison between the tax team and departments such as Accounting, Finance, Treasury, and Legal Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely filing of over 500 monthly sales and use tax returns via third-party providers Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Review tax returns and estimated payments, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations across indirect tax categories, including business licenses and miscellaneous tax accounts Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Maintain monthly tax reserve schedules Audit Management: Support ongoing state and local tax audits by coordinating documentation, shaping audit strategy, and responding to information requests Audit Management: Provide clear communication and strategic insights to internal stakeholders throughout the audit process Process Improvement & Special Projects: Lead or contribute to projects aimed at improving compliance efficiency, including evaluation and implementation of tax automation solutions Process Improvement & Special Projects: Conduct tax research and analysis to identify planning opportunities Process Improvement & Special Projects: Use data analytics and visualization tools to develop tax models and generate actionable reports Process Improvement & Special Projects: Collaborate with external advisors and internal teams to support broader business goals Process Improvement & Special Projects: Leverage tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, Power Pivot/Query, and Oracle ERP to streamline tax processes Process Improvement & Special Projects: Gain proficiency in tax software systems such as Vertex and enhance use of enterprise reporting platforms Qualifications

Extensive background in indirect tax, gained through public accounting or in-house tax departments CPA certification preferred Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational abilities with capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment
