The Director of Income Tax is a strategic role within AMLI, responsible for overseeing all aspects of income tax compliance, planning, reporting, and audit support. This position requires advanced expertise in federal, state, and local income tax matters as applicable to corporate entities and real estate investments. The Director of Income Tax will work in close collaboration with executive management, finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to ensure the company’s tax strategies are aligned with the overall business objectives. This is a great opportunity for someone that wants to grow and develop as a leader within AMLI! Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
Leads tax planning and compliance efforts across federal and state jurisdictions, for both AMLI and joint venture structures. Leads quarterly and annual REIT compliance process. Leads tax compliance related to compensation. Manages K-1 reporting, partner capital accounts, and basis tracking for complex ownership structures. Manages 3rd-party tax preparers and consultants (primarily PwC). Supports executive leadership and investors on tax-related questions. Supports financial controllers and payroll team on tax compliance related to compensation. Monitors and stays abreast with changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends that affect real estate investments, while providing relevant tax updates to leadership. Education and Experience
CPA and/or advanced degree with specialization in Taxation. 6+ years with a Big 4 or comparable firm. Solid understanding of Taxation related to real estate, REITs, partnership taxation, and complex incentive compensation structures. Excellent project management and teambuilding skills. Communication and Presentation Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, residents, customers, and the general public. Compensation and Benefits
