General Dynamics Information Technology
Systems Engineer (Tactical Networks – CANES) | Active Secret clearance
General Dynamics Information Technology, San Diego, California, United States, 92189
Overview
Transform mission needs into deployed capability as a
Systems Engineer
with GDIT. You’ll lead end-to-end systems engineering for Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) and related Navy tactical network efforts with NIWC Pacific (Codes 55131/55132/55133) in support of PMW-160—spanning ashore, afloat, subsurface, airborne, mobile, and joint environments. MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT Responsibilities
Drive full lifecycle SE: capability analysis, requirements decomposition, verification objectives, and system specifications for new builds and tech refresh of CANES baselines. Produce enterprise/tactical/system-level architectures aligned to DoD Architecture Framework; author views, interface definitions, and interoperability mappings across enclaves and domains. Lead engineering development: prototype, integrate, and lab-validate network and compute solutions (virtualized data centers, transport, GPON, wireless, SATCOM); mature technology to higher TRLs. Generate core SE artifacts: System Engineering Plans (SEPs), Engineering Implementation Plans (EIPs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), design drawings, BoMs, and STEDPs/BESEPs/IDPs for installation approval. Plan and support Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E), Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), SOVTs, and Operational Assessments; perform defect triage, root-cause analysis, and corrective action tracking. Coordinate RMF touchpoints with IA teams (IATT/ATO evidence, STIG alignment) and ensure configuration baselines remain compliant; maintain change control through CCB/PTRB and CMPro. Prepare production readiness inputs (LRIP/FRP/FRD), reliability/maintainability assessments, and environmental/TEMPEST/EMI considerations with vendor and government stakeholders. Lead site survey/installation planning, risk assessment, schedules, and as-built documentation; minimize operational impact and ensure successful fleet introduction. Support logistics and sustainment artifacts (ILSP/LSA inputs), obsolescence management, and upgrade pathways via ECR/ECP/RFD/RFW processes. Brief IPTs/WIPTs and leadership; mentor junior engineers; champion MBSE/DevSecOps practices to accelerate delivery. Qualifications
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (Required): Security Clearance:
Active Secret clearance Experience: 5+ years systems engineering for enterprise or tactical networks, including requirements management, architecture/design, integration, and test. Hands-on with virtualized environments (vSphere/vCenter), routing/switching, QoS, GPON, and enclave integration across ashore/afloat contexts. Authoring SE artifacts (SEPs/EIPs/ICDs/SRS/design drawings) and executing DT&E/SOVT/TRR events. Working knowledge of RMF coordination, DISA STIG alignment, and configuration management (CMPro or equivalent). Skills/Tools:
DOORS (requirements/RTM), SysML/MBSE (Cameo/MagicDraw preferred), Visio/Modeling tools, Jira/Confluence, Git, Wireshark; strong interface control and interoperability engineering. Education:
