Manager, Epic Clinical Applications

UT Southwestern Medical Center We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Manager to lead an EMR development team—a group of seven highly skilled analysts—providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and transformative leadership. This role is central to advancing healthcare technology solutions that support more than 50 outpatient clinics and 10 inpatient units, spanning diverse and complex service lines such as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Physical Therapy, Inpatient Rehab unit, Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Zale Lipshy Hospital and more at Clements University Hospital. Experience in OpTime, Anesthesia, EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient Orders, EpicCare Inpatient Clin-Doc, Epic Order Transmittal, or Epic Rehab is highly desirable. Certification or experience with any other Epic applications will also be considered.
If not currently certified in a clinical application, the expectation is to obtain Epic proficiency with Honors in a clinical application within 30 days of hire. What You’ll Do
As Manager, you will serve as a catalyst for innovation, guiding your team through high-impact projects that directly support clinical operations and patient care. You will oversee daily operations, ensure optimal team performance, and lead cross-functional initiatives with internal partners across EMR teams, Health System Information Resources (HSIR), academic and administrative IT, and clinical leadership. You’ll be the driving force behind seamless coordination, ensuring that critical changes are executed with precision and timeliness. You’ll also manage and facilitate components of an established governance process and various project meetings, ensuring follow-up actions are tracked and completed effectively. Lead the Future of Health IT More than a manager, you’ll be a builder of people and processes. A key priority of this role is leadership development—investing in and mentoring senior analysts to become the next generation of leaders. You will shape a resilient and forward-looking team, implementing a clear succession strategy that strengthens the department’s leadership pipeline and readiness for future challenges. Champion Agile Innovation You will lead multiple Agile/Scrum teams through a journey of continuous improvement, elevating their performance and delivery through principled Agile leadership. Your influence will extend across HSIR, driving process optimization, rapid iteration, and high-quality delivery in a fast-paced, ever-evolving healthcare environment. Your leadership will ensure that every team operates with clarity, agility, and purpose. Empower Through Expertise As the go-to expert in profile, role, and security management, you will play an essential role in building technical excellence across the team. From Business Analyst Supervisors to Application Analysts, you will elevate the team’s capabilities in problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical proficiency—ensuring they’re equipped to support the complex needs of a leading healthcare institution. Qualifications
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent, or Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in computer science, math, information systems, or related field Experience : 8 years progressively responsible IT experience with High School Diploma including 2 years in supervisory or managerial role OR 6 years progressive IT experience with Bachelor’s Degree including 2 years in supervisory or managerial role Job Duties
Manages Information Resources section, such as Network Services, Software Systems Programming, Computer Training, etc., following university policies and procedures and using effective management, communication, and customer service skills to develop and ensure effective program. Develops, revises, recommends, and interprets policies and procedures for section to ensure all applicable laws and governmental guidelines are followed and that employees are treated equitably. Coordinates various projects and programs for section ensuring all tasks are completed by established deadlines and to ensure that quality customer service is provided for faculty and staff. Assists campus departments in assessing technical requirements that meet needs of their operation. Completes work specific to assigned section using appropriate technologies and communication skills. Supervises group of professional and/or administrative support employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Benefits
