This hybrid role offers the best of both worlds: meaningful collaboration in our Carlsbad office and the flexibility of remote work. The Director, Learning & Development is a strategic leader responsible for building Viasat Government’s (VGOV’s) enterprise learning architecture and leadership development strategy. This role designs and delivers programs that build capability, accelerate performance, and prepare the workforce for future challenges and opportunities. Operating at the intersection of business transformation and employee growth, this leader ensures learning is embedded in the employee experience and aligned to mission-critical outcomes. The Director partners closely with business units, P&C BPs, and other P&C leaders to deliver scalable, inclusive, and high-impact learning solutions. They lead a team of learning professionals and manage platforms, vendors, and content portfolios to support VGOV’s growth, agility, and leadership pipeline.
What you’ll do Enterprise Learning Strategy
Develop and execute a learning strategy that supports VGOV’s business priorities and workforce capability needs
Curate and deliver scalable learning programs across technical, functional, and leadership domains
Partner with business units and P&C BPs to identify skill gaps and design targeted interventions
Oversee learning platforms, content curation, vendor relationships, and instructional design
Integrate learning into onboarding, performance management, and career development processes
Measure learning impact through engagement, performance, and business metrics
Leadership Development
Design and deliver leadership development programs across all levels, from emerging leaders to executives
Facilitate leadership assessments, coaching, and experiential learning opportunities
Build succession ready leadership pipelines in partnership with Talent Management
Embed inclusive leadership principles and culture-shaping content into development experiences
Collaboration Across the Business
Partner with Talent Management, Organizational Design, and P&C Business Partners to align learning with broader talent strategies
Support change management and transformation initiatives through targeted capability building
Serve as a strategic advisor on learning needs tied to organizational shifts and growth
Program Management & Evaluation
Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of enterprise learning programs
Develop and/or approve content, methods, and materials for training staff
Establish metrics and feedback loops to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
What you’ll need
10 years in Learning & Development, Organizational Development, or related P&C leadership roles
Proven experience designing enterprise learning strategies and leadership programs
Strong facilitation, instructional design, and vendor management capabilities
Experience in defense, aerospace, or highly regulated industries preferred
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in HR, Education, or Organizational Psychology preferred

Salary range:
$186,500.00 – $294,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $231,000.00- $347,000.00/ annually. At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
