Location: San Francisco or Los Angeles or San Diego with 20-40% travel to jobsites Project Engineer – Energy & Sustainability

This role is responsible for managing the development and delivery of energy efficiency initiatives for commercial clients. The position blends technical expertise with project support across energy audits, sustainable construction, and clean energy financing. Collaboration with business development teams will be important in shaping opportunities and implementing innovative solutions. Responsibilities

Perform energy audits on commercial buildings (ASHRAE Level 1 & 2). Gather and analyze building data such as utility records, equipment details, automation system trends, and occupancy information. Evaluate HVAC and lighting systems to identify efficiency opportunities and recommend conservation measures. Partner with sales teams to define project requirements and align proposed solutions with client needs. Prepare cost estimates for energy upgrades, retrofits, solar systems, EV charging, and controls optimization. Develop detailed scopes of work and coordinate the contractor bidding process. Model energy savings and financial payback for proposed measures. Contribute to audit reports with findings, recommendations, and cost-benefit analyses. Support project execution by finalizing scopes, reviewing designs and submittals, resolving technical issues, and commissioning installed systems. Stay current on advanced controls, emerging energy efficiency strategies, and sustainable technologies. Help refine internal processes, documentation, and tools. Qualifications & Experience

3–6 years of relevant experience in energy auditing, retro commissioning, or related building efficiency work. Strong technical ability to estimate costs, analyze energy data, and interpret MEP plans. Solid understanding of HVAC, lighting, and building automation systems. Familiarity with construction cost estimation, budgeting, and scheduling. Experience with commissioning new or existing buildings. Proficiency in office applications and common industry software. Additional Skills

Effective written and verbal communication with the ability to present technical findings clearly. Self-driven, detail-oriented, and adaptable in dynamic environments. Strong collaboration skills with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams. Education & Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or BEAP are valued. Training or experience in HVAC design and familiarity with utility incentive programs preferred. Travel

Local travel to project sites (primarily in California). Occasional travel for team meetings or company events. Equal Opportunity
