Position Summary

The Senior Director of Healthy Living provides leadership and strategic oversight of the Marin YMCA’s health and wellness programs and services. In partnership with the Associate Executive Director, this position oversees the operations and staff for group exercise, small group training, personal training, aquatics, health education, wellness floors, sports, and other member engagement initiatives. This role is responsible for program operations, budget management, and staff supervision and development. The Senior Director ensures alignment with YMCA member engagement principles: Welcome, Connect, Support, and Invite. Key Responsibilities

I. Strategic Leadership & Planning Develop annual departmental plans, budgets, and forecasts; adjust plans proactively to meet evolving revenue and engagement targets. Monitor program participation and member satisfaction metrics; design strategies to strengthen member experience and engagement. Regularly assess program offerings and develop new initiatives that align with member needs and organizational goals. Participate in Association Member Experience POD and other relevant workgroups. II. Staff & Department Oversight Supervise Wellness, Group Exercise, and Aquatics teams, ensuring operational excellence and program quality. Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management for departmental staff. Develop and implement training and coaching programs that emphasize YMCA values, safety standards, and service excellence. Conduct regular staff meetings to foster communication, alignment, and a positive team culture. III. Retention and Member Engagement Develop and manage a schedule of wellness options for members, including orientations, group exercise classes, sports, swim lessons, and other offerings. Collaborate with Marketing & Communications and other departments to promote programs and ensure consistent communication. Maintain service standards, oversee issue resolution, and model cross-departmental collaboration. IV. Operational Excellence Partner with Facilities staff to address equipment issues and preventative maintenance needs, ensuring safety and minimizing downtime. Manage wellness floor equipment leasing and purchasing; optimize space design for member needs. Ensure that facility spaces are safe, welcoming, and accessible. Provide direct service as needed, including substituting for group exercise classes, personal training, swim lessons, or other program areas. V. Community & Philanthropy Lead Annual Community Campaign efforts for Wellness, Group Exercise, and Aquatics Departments. Cultivate partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and schools. Represent the YMCA at community and networking events to strengthen visibility and engagement. Qualifications

Required Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in leadership, customer service, operations, wellness, or healthcare. 4+ years of supervisory experience. 2+ years as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, lifeguard, or in a wellness leadership role; current certifications required. Experience developing and managing budgets. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to learn internal systems. Ability to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed. Preferred Experience supervising membership or program operations. Experience overseeing aquatics operations. Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce. Experience with Adobe products. Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed in a combination of office, fitness center, pool, and community settings. Regular interaction with staff, members, and community partners in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Must be able to move about the facility, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to demonstrate and/or assist with physical fitness activities, including exercise equipment setup, group exercise, or aquatics programming as needed. Noise levels can vary from quiet office settings to loud gymnasium or pool environments. Requires flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Position Details
