The Central AI organization is part of the larger Atlassian Intelligence program. Its purpose is to accelerate AI innovation across all products and platforms, provide cohesive AI experiences, and set up a scalable Atlassian AI infrastructure for the future. Central AI constructs the underlying infrastructure and capacities to enable seamless AI integration and collaboration across departments, and develops core shared experiences such as search, knowledge discovery, and conversation. What you’ll do As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will work on developing and implementing cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, training sophisticated models, and collaborating with product, engineering, and analytics teams to integrate AI functionalities into Atlassian products and services. Daily tasks include designing system and model architectures, conducting rigorous experimentation and model evaluations, and guiding junior ML engineers. Your role is pivotal in realizing AI’s transformative potential across our offerings. Qualifications
Your background On the first day, we’ll expect you to have: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably in Computer Science or equivalent experience) 3+ years of related industry experience in data science Expertise in Python or Java with the ability to write production-quality code; familiarity with SQL, Spark, and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks) Experience building and scaling ML models for business applications using large datasets Ability to communicate data science concepts to diverse audiences and tell a compelling story Focus on business practicality and the 80/20 rule; high output quality with awareness of business value of delivering something now vs perfection later Agile development mindset with a passion for continuous iteration Nice to have Experience in consumer/B2B SaaS or enterprise environments Experience developing deep learning-based models and working on LLM-related applications Ability to solve ambiguous problems and break them into manageable components with innovative solutions Compensation
Base pay ranges (in the United States) are determined by geographic zone and experience. Zone A: $199,400 - $265,800; Zone B: $179,400 - $239,200; Zone C: $165,500 - $220,600.
