We are building a dedicated Life Sciences Underwriting team to launch Liberty Mutual's Life Sciences Industry Practice within the Middle Market. The vertical focuses on delivering comprehensive multi-line Property and Liability insurance solutions for mid-sized Life Sciences companies (R&D stage through $2B insured product/service revenue), including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, dietary supplements, analytical laboratories, digital health innovators, cellular and tissue-based products, and related ecosystems. The team collaborates with Liberty Mutual’s Life Sciences Claims and Risk Control professionals to provide specialized expertise and service. Senior Underwriting Manager

to join at the ground floor. The role blends hands-on underwriting with early-stage growth responsibilities and leadership expectations as the practice scales. The Senior Underwriting Manager will contribute to our go-to-market launch, external brand development, and broker/client partnerships. The position reports to leadership and will evolve into a broader leadership role focused on strategic planning, underwriting initiatives, people management, and regional portfolio performance. Travel up to 25% is expected. This role is hybrid: 2 days/week in office and 3 days/week work-from-home. Responsibilities

Establish a visible external profile and build relationships with external agents, brokers, partners, and stakeholders to grow the Life Sciences Middle Market portfolio. Execute Go-To-Market Strategy and Strategic Distribution Plan to raise brand awareness and educate trading partners on Liberty’s Life Sciences capabilities. Lead pipeline development strategies for the Life Sciences Industry Practice. Underwrite individual accounts (primarily new business) including risk selection, assessment, pricing, terms/conditions, quoting/binding, and servicing a book of business. Underwriting competency expected based on Life Sciences risk experience and appropriate underwriting authority. Uphold Liberty’s value proposition, service existing accounts, and meet with clients. Accountability for the performance of the growing Life Sciences portfolio; assist CUO with forecasting and planning. Lead or support projects to grow Liberty’s Life Sciences Practice, driving underwriting and process excellence. Collaborate across teams (Distribution, Operations, UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in North America). Maintain knowledge of key legal cases, legislation, and regulations impacting Life Sciences underwriting. Share knowledge through technical expertise and external thought leadership. Mentor, coach, and train other underwriters and internal partners. Qualifications

Degree in Business, Risk Management, or a Scientific field, or equivalent Minimum of 10 years underwriting experience, including at least 2 years of underwriting management experience CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable Life Sciences business Analytical ability to evaluate high-impact Life Sciences underwriting exposures across Property and Liability lines Strong communication skills to convey complex analyses in writing and in presentations Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders Ability to define and implement underwriting processes/workflows for complex issues Leadership and people development capabilities Strategic thinking, portfolio management, and a results-oriented mindset Negotiation and coaching skills About Us
