HDR is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Owner’s Engineer and/or Advisor. Opportunities are available in multiple locations.

Overview The Senior Electrical Power Engineer candidate should have experience within the utility scale power and renewable energy industry and be capable of leading teams for power generation design projects including supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems. In addition, the candidate will be expected to mentor young engineers, support in managing client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development in response to requests for proposals. A significant level of design and engineer of record work experience with power plant systems is required.

Responsibilities

Lead teams for power generation design projects including support in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role.

Mentor engineers, manage client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal technical writing, fee builds, and WBS development in response to RFPs.

Apply experience in power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs (raceway, lighting, grounding).

Coordinate with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews and direct activities of other engineering professionals as needed.

Contribute to business development and client engagement efforts; expect less than 10% travel for meetings and site visits.

Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis.

Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical power generation design.

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.

Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.

Excellent communication, written and organizational skills.

Strong leadership skills; able to work independently or as lead on multi-discipline teams.

Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, and related lighting and grounding design, including instrumentation and control and life safety systems.

Ability to work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed.

Experience directing the activities of other engineering professionals and mentoring staff.

Willingness for travel as needed (less than 10%).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

A minimum of 10 years of experience.

Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.

Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles are eligible for limited benefits.) The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250; in New Jersey: $131,537 - $204,250.
