HDR seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Owner’s Engineer and/or Advisor. Opportunities are available in multiple preferred locations across the United States. The Senior Electrical Power Engineer should have experience within the utility-scale power and renewable energy industry and be capable of leading teams for power generation design projects including supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems. The candidate will mentor junior engineers, support client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal writing, fee development, and work breakdown structure development in response to proposals. Significant design and engineer of record experience with power plant systems is required. Responsibilities
Lead teams on power generation design projects in utility-scale and renewable energy contexts, in roles including Owner’s Engineer or Advisor. Develop protection and control designs, power systems studies, and balance of plant designs (raceway, lighting, grounding). Mentor young engineers and manage client relationships, including marketing activities such as proposals and technical writing. Coordinate with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews and management matters. Direct activities of other engineering professionals and act as a mentor to staff as needed. Expectation of travel for client meetings and project site visits (less than 10%). Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power generation design Professional Engineers license (PE or P.Eng) Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Power Market Sector design software (examples: PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit) Active participation in an employee-owned culture Preferred Qualifications
ABET-accredited Electrical Power emphasis Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems with Electrical Power emphasis Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills Strong leadership capable of independent work or leading multi-discipline teams Knowledge of three-phase power, protection and control design, grounding, lighting, instrumentation and control, and life-safety systems Additional Details
Background in simple cycle and combined cycle power generation design Experience with engineering power consulting or EPC firms Contributors to project reviews with management, and mentorship of staff Less than 10% travel required What We Believe
