Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates a variety of technical procedures. Utilizes accepted quality control techniques with the aid of different methodologies. May perform diagnostic procedures in other laboratory sections as needed. Job Description: Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Is able to perform all Blood Bank procedures required for the safe issuing of blood. This includes cross matches, type and screens (tube and solid phase methodology), issuing units, antibody panels, DAT workups, donor work-ups utilizing ISBT labeling system, preparation of components, and processing blood received from outside facilities. Able to utilize the Blood Bank section of the LIS computer system. Perform any other functions required for the smooth running of the Blood Bank section of the laboratory. Performs and reports all automated and manual Chemistry procedures, including troubleshooting Chemistry instruments. Performs blood gas testing. Utilizes the Chemistry section of the LIS computer system. Performs any other functions required for the smooth running of the Core Laboratory section of the laboratory. Performs and reports all automated and manual Hematology procedures. Troubleshoots and maintains all Hematology instruments. Performs coagulation studies and CBCs with differentials. Performs body fluid analysis, including crystals, cell counts and differentials. Performs peripheral smears for blood parasites. Utilizes the Hematology section of the LIS computer system. Performs any other tasks required for the smooth running of the Hematology section of the Laboratory. Performs all aspects of Microbiology planting and processing of send-out tests. Performs PCR testing, reading plates, blood cultures, susceptibility testing and gram stains. Troubleshoots Microbiology instruments. Performs Mycology (including mold and yeast identification). Performs wet and microscopic Urinalysis testing. Utilizes the Microbiology section of the LIS computer system. Performs any other tasks required for the smooth running of the Microbiology section of the Laboratory. Organizational skills: Organizes work during heavy workloads and can multi-task to expedite patient care. Keeps the work area clean and organized. Communication skills: Notes critical results, communicates results in the proper time frame. Maintains open communication with physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Consults with supervisor to resolve technical problems as needed. Maintains all appropriate competencies and continuing education requirements. May review a technical article or present an educational session at a staff meeting. Assists with teaching students and orienting new employees. Performs all quality control and participates in quality assurance monitors. Assists the supervisor with reviewing policies and procedures as necessary. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science MLS Certification Minimum Experience: 0-1 year(s) of work-related experience Other Requirements: Consistently promote a culture of Wellbeing, Empathy, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Equity as outlined in the organization's WE CARE values.
