Responsibilities
Clinical Care – The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team. Practices in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings, may provide autonomous team-based care. Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews/tests results, formulates and manages treatment plans. May perform procedures, prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines. May serve as first or second assistant on operative cases within scope and prerequisites. Other clinical duties as required by department goals and regulatory guidelines. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – Educates patients/families on care and resources; provides psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team. Information Management – Ensures appropriate documentation and protects patient information in line with hospital and regulatory requirements. Quality Management – Demonstrates professional behavior, ensures compliance with healthcare regulatory standards and recommendations. Professional Development – Engages in projects to maintain and advance professional competency; may serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and preceptor; supports safety reporting and research activities as applicable. Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. EXPERIENCE
Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff and go through credentialing; evidence of current competence and letters of reference may be required. LICENSURE
Active PA Certification by NCCPA, Connecticut State PA License; ACLS/BLS as indicated; DEA License where applicable. PALS/NRP certifications as indicated for neonatal care. Additional licenses/certifications may be required based on position and specialty. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
