PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Director, Consumer Loan Lending Policy & Analytics at our Tysons, Virginia; Dallas, Texas or San Antonio, Texas location. The primary purpose of this job is to own the end-to-end development and implementation of credit strategy/policy and conduct credit risk monitoring & analytics for Consumer Loan products, including Auto Loan, Unsecured Personal Loan, and any other loan products. This role will contribute to setting a strategic credit agenda and manage a team of managers & analysts. It plays a critical role in enhancing consumer banking lending strategy and optimization to meet business goals such as optimizing targeting & acquisition, reducing losses, mitigating credit abuse risk, improving lending program economics, and elevating member retention/engagement.

Responsibilities

Manage automated/judgmental decisioning credit strategies for Consumer Loan programs.

Develop consumer loan credit policies and underwriting criteria, including approve/decline, line assignment, ability to pay & income verification and judgmental decisioning criteria.

Assist with defining consumer loan Credit Risk Appetite / Tolerance limits.

Develop targeting credit strategies to support business growth; partner with business segment product owners to optimize acquisition targeting/marketing campaigns aligned with credit policies.

Partner with Product Team to define risk segmentation, loss expectations / risk premium to support Risk Adjusted Pricing.

Monitor credit quality, risk performance and economics of the consumer loan portfolio on an ongoing basis to prevent or mitigate losses.

Perform business line program deep dives and monitor credit policy changes to drive policy optimization and risk mitigation strategies; inform corporate decisions and improve member experience and efficiencies.

Drive monitoring and analysis of credit risk for both organic and acquired portfolios; prepare management/Board reporting and provide insights on emerging credit trends and implications for Allowance for Loan Losses.

Manage enhancement, maintenance, and monitoring of acquisition cash flow/NPV valuation model at segment or loan level to enable cutoff decisions and line assignment optimization; ground economics inputs, extrapolate assumptions, evaluate/productionize valuation platform, automate sensitivity and gaming functionality, and develop automated monitoring against forecast.

Provide risk analytics to support credit expansion by overseeing onboarding of acquired portfolios and product launches.

Act as a strategic partner with Product Team evaluating new asset classes/products.

Partner with stakeholders across Credit Risk Modeling, Product, Compliance, Operations, Finance and Enterprise Risk Management to enable profitable growth while minimizing credit risk and adapting to economic and regulatory changes.

Manage analysts to achieve the team’s strategic goals, develop skills, and foster a strong credit culture.

Maintain knowledge of consumer lending regulations to ensure compliance and stay abreast of regulatory developments and best practices.

Participate in external and internal audits and regulatory examinations as needed.

Identify required data and collaborate with data stewards to ensure data quality and timely retrieval; contribute to credit data mart and corporate database designs.

Provide leadership and collaboration to support attainment of corporate goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, quantitative discipline or related field; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in credit strategy, policy & analysis or credit risk management in financial services.

Minimum of five (5) years of direct management experience.

Experience in Consumer Lending products including Credit Card, Auto Loan and Unsecured Personal Loan.

Experience building support to gain acceptance of credit decisions in a collaborative environment; strong leadership and partnering skills.

Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex topics clearly to diverse audiences.

Self-motivated with strong people skills and cross-functional team leadership.

Proven project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects.

Strong data analysis and visualization skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Tableau, SQL); proficiency with statistical tools (R, Python) preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility This position will supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications There are no additional certifications required.

Work Environment Indoor office setting with moderate noise; some roles require working in an office environment and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call as required.
