Overview
Staff Failure Analysis Engineer, High Voltage Power Devices. The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla’s products in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Vehicle and Energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role that requires extensive hands-on failure analysis of electronic components. We are seeking an enthusiastic, fast-learning individual who will work closely with experienced engineers on analyzing, root causing, and reporting on electronic component issues for high voltage power electronics. Utilize analytical tools and techniques to support failure analysis investigations on electronic components at Package and Die Level Perform sample preparation techniques to facilitate component fault isolation including mechanical cross section, parallel lapping, chemical decapsulation, chemical etching and plasma etching Complete electrical analysis and material characterizations to uncover the root causes of production yield losses and reliability failures Collaborate with engineers from Design, Quality, Manufacturing Test, and Supplier Industrialization teams to support containment and to propose corrective actions for defects found in failure analysis Produce written reports that clearly convey results of failure with guidance Create design of experiments to test hypotheses and gain knowledge on recreating failure What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience Hands-on experience working in a service, development, or failure analysis laboratory environment Strong written and verbal communication skills required (English) Demonstrated interpersonal skills through team projects or leadership roles Proficient operator of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM, Dual Beam SEM/FIB preferred) and other electrical/material analysis techniques Deep understanding of semiconductor fabrication, theory, and usage is preferred Hands-on experience with electrical testing tools like DMM, Power Supplies, and Oscilloscopes Benefits and Compensation
