POSITION OVERVIEW
The John Cooper School seeks a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to join our leadership team and advance the mission of the School. This senior administrative role will oversee all aspects of human resources strategy and operations, supporting our dedicated faculty and staff while fostering a positive workplace culture aligned with Cooper’s values.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the school’s human resources functions including but not limited to the maintenance of personnel records, legal compliance, compensation, benefits administration, staffing strategies and personnel issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
STRATEGIC Leadership
Develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies that support the school’s mission and strategic goals
Partner with the Head of School and senior leadership team on organizational development initiatives
Lead efforts to enhance employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction
BENEFIT AND PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION
Supervise and guide payroll policies and procedures
Execute the issuance of employment agreements and compensation statements
Oversee and manage onboarding of all employees, including new employee orientation and documentation process
Manage and coordinate benefit programs - Health, Dental, Vision, HSA, FSA, 403(b) Retirement Plan, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability, Life/AD&D and COBRA - for employees, including all employee communication, problem solving and claims resolution
Manage annual open enrollment
Work with school benefit broker and all external vendors to manage all benefit plans
Communicate plan changes/comparisons during Open Enrollment periods to assist employees in becoming educated in all benefits options
Ensure Summary Plan Descriptions are in legal compliance
Ensure compliance of all plans with all federal and local applicable laws and statutes, i.e. ACA, HIPAA, ERISA IRS guidelines and filing of the 5500
Administer all aspects of the school’s 403(b) retirement plan, ensuring compliance with IRS and DOL regulations and the plan document
Manage the 403(b) annual compliance testing, annual audit and filing of the 5500
Serve on the 403(b) fiduciary committee and schedule quarterly meetings with external plan consultant
Reconcile and process invoices for all benefit programs on a monthly/quarterly basis
Maintain secure and confidential benefit related files and records
Manage and process all, Worker’s Compensation claims, Texas Workforce Commission claims and FMLA claims
Collaborate with the Head of School & Associate Head of School on employment performance and disciplinary practices, solutions and action plans
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
Conduct internal investigations relating to employee complaints
Consult administrators and employees regarding employee disciplinary problems, resolving personnel issues and providing mediation when necessary
Manage employee separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations
Conduct and manage background checks for employees and contractors
Ensure compliance with federal and state statutes/laws such as FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, Worker’s Compensation, Title VII, and ERISA.
Maintain/edit/update job descriptions for all positions. Complete periodic job description audit and ensure appropriate classifications under the Fair Labor Standards Act
Manage employee recruitment, including employee page on the website, placement of opportunities in appropriate venues; and the receipt, acknowledgement and dissemination of all candidate materials; management of the search process and maintenance of search documentation to ensure EEOC compliance
Revise/update employee handbook as needed and maintain current file of Acknowledgments
Provide training on various HR topics including interviewing skills, employee coaching and performance reviews

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
10 years’ experience in HR required
SHRM and/or PHR certifications required
Proficiency with Microsoft required
Knowledge of HRIS required
Experience with ADP a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Required to walk; stoop, kneel or crouch; reach with hands and arms
Required to stand, sit, talk and hear
Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
Travel to annual benefit meeting
