DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, Housing & Food Services

Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the management and operation of the Department’s physical environment and critical student services. This includes oversight of occupancy management, conference housing, facilities maintenance, custodial services across residence halls, apartments, offices, dining facilities, and child care centers. Lead emergency management and sustainability programs and other cross-functional initiatives and special projects. Responsibilities

Organizational Effectiveness (35%): provide leadership for conference services, desk services, occupancy management, and facilities operations; ensure compliance with applicable regulations; oversee operational data and metrics; plan and manage operational goals; identify process improvement opportunities; direct custodial and maintenance programs; lead major operational milestones; lead integration of new facilities and lifecycle planning; lead emergency management and sustainability programs; liaison with campus departments for cost-effective facility maintenance services. Strategic Planning (25%): develop and manage unit operating budgets; identify priorities and success measures; coordinate housing space utilization and revenue strategy; direct occupancy plan and conference housing strategy; participate in departmental strategic planning and capital development; collaborate on complex projects; represent department in major campus programs; lead cross-functional initiatives; build relationships with campus partners. Supervision (20%): supervise staff across conference services, desk services, and facilities services; establish staffing patterns and performance standards; evaluate staff performance and provide coaching; ensure compliance with personnel, payroll, and safety policies. Leadership (20%): model inclusive, student-centered values; be a member of the senior leadership team; collaborate with other units; cultivate relationships with campus and external partners; participate in university committees; perform other duties as assigned. Impact to the University

Enhance student experience by maintaining safe, engaging living/learning environments. Support risk management and safety policies compliance. Protect over $1.5B in building replacement value through effective facilities management. Strengthen fiscal health through responsible resource management. Reduce health and safety risks via staff training and proper product usage. Support financial health and stability of HFS through occupancy management and conference revenue. Advance recruitment and enrollment objectives through on-campus housing and conference programs. Position details and working conditions

Working hours: regular daytime office hours with some evenings/weekends for events or emergencies; hybrid schedule may be available. Direct supervision of three FTE and indirect supervision of additional staff; total workforce includes facilities professionals, custodial, technicians, and seasonal staff. Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Executive Director of Housing & Food Services. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and five years of professional college/university housing management, facilities management, property management, strategic leadership, or related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for these qualifications. Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in relevant fields Ten years of leadership experience Strategic project management for complex initiatives Experience with safety programs, emergency response, and building access/security Strong communication skills; inclusive leadership and team development Financial forecasting, budgeting, and occupancy management using data systems Knowledge of building operations in residential environments Ability to build collaborative partnerships Ability to apply national trends and best practices to operations FEMA ICS Training: ICS-100, 200, 700 Compensation and benefits
