This position is located at the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH) in the Nursing Services Section's Patient Care Units Nurse Managers Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise unit-based nursing staff and unit clerks in the provision of quality patient care and psychosocial rehabilitation in a safe environment. The Nurse Manager will support the hospital's strategic plan and facilitate completion of the action plan. He/she is responsible for organizing and managing resources to facilitate all care and treatment for their assigned patient population 24 hours daily. The Nurse Manager has the authority to identify problems, collaboratively develop and implement solutions and communicate directly with discipline chiefs and department heads for the benefit of patient care and treatment. He/she ensures and oversees that varied interdisciplinary treatment programs are being implemented and followed by unit staff. Qualifications
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATES A: Hawaii Registered Nurse License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii at the time of application. B. Certification in Nursing Administration and/or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from ANA (American Nurses Association) preferred. Experience:
One and one-half (1-1/2) years of professional nursing experience as a registered nurse which involved providing direct patient care services in a hospital setting. At least one (1) year of such experience must have been comparable to the Registered Professional Nurse III level in the State Service and must have involved nursing experience in a mental health setting. Registered Professional Nurse III
is a staff/journey level for nursing positions that are assigned to one clinical services area or rotation among the various nursing areas of the institution or hospital (e.g., obstetrics, surgery, pediatrics, etc.). Assignments involve the responsibility for developing and implementing nursing care plans for patients with a wide range of nursing care problems; providing nursing care and treatment services to patients assigned to the unit; and assigning and directing the work of nursing assistants. Supervisory Aptitude:
Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. A demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader, by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential. Quality of Experience:
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position.
