Overview The Clinical Nurse II role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and high-quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge planning. The nursing process is used based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs.

Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care plan as necessary, with consultation as needed, and confers with appropriate resources when making ethical/legal/medical decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. The Clinical Nurse II also participates in the department’s Clinical Ladder program and demonstrates commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting educational projects and/or supplemental activities.

Responsibilities Direct patient care on Medical units in collaboration with the health care team. Provide physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, nutritional support, patient teaching, and discharge planning. Utilize the nursing process with evidence-based practices and adjust the plan as needed. Engage in department activities and professional development as outlined in the Clinical Ladder program.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

One year experience in an acute care hospital required.

BSN preferred. For Magnet-designated facilities, a BSN or initiation of BSN program within one year of hire and attainment within two years is required.

BSN preferred.

Additional department-specific requirements may apply for Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, X-Ray and related services.

Licenses Registered Nurse in the State of California – Current and in good standing.

Certifications

BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.

Department-specific certifications vary by department, including ACLS and PALS where applicable, and NIHSS within specified timeframes. Completion of annual stroke education as required.

PICc Services: ACLS certification may be required.

Certifications Preferred

CRN (Certified Radiology Nurse) preferred for certain radiology-related departments.
