Overview
Senior Project Coordinator, O&M, AFC at MBTA. The Senior Project Coordinator will support departmental activities related to fare collection device life cycle phases such as design, location, construction, installation, and equipment operations and maintenance. This role coordinates with all associated supporting departments, locations, and vendors to ensure continuity of fare collection at the device level. Responsibilities
Support all devices and associated software of any generation/vendor of fare collection. Collaborate with garages, car-houses, vendors, consultants, and other personnel to ensure vehicle and device availability, contract compliance, and MBTA quality standards. Review vehicle/device drawings, documents, and specifications for device design, delivery, installation, and maintenance. Conduct site installation verification, field checks, and participate in testing cycles for fit/form/function and ongoing maintenance of revenue devices. Act as a department representative during design reviews of AFC installation locations and next-generation device design. Provide technical oversight and problem resolution. Ensure action items are documented, managed, and responded to in a timely manner with root cause analysis when applicable. Manage inventory acceptance checks and maintain audit tracking documents. Support ongoing operational and maintenance needs of the Authority under the Automated Fare Collection system across various shifts. Participate in program meetings and implementation planning sessions. Monitor spending, perform variance analyses, and devise solutions to correct cost variances. Interact with multiple stakeholders and collaborate with vendor teams to plan, strategize, and execute device removals, installations, testing, and maintenance activities. Manage additional departmental work streams and tasks as assigned. Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, or co-workers in a courteous and professional manner. Perform all other duties and projects as assigned. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Four (4) years of experience in administration or coordination duties supporting a large department or group. Effective organizational, analytical, confidentiality, quantitative, writing, multitasking and time management skills. Proficient with Microsoft Teams, Office, PowerPoint, Outlook, and calendar management. Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills with the ability to resolve unplanned issues creatively and effectively. Strong written and verbal communications skills with experience communicating with customers, employees, vendors, contractors, designers, public legislators, and state and federal agencies. Collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented approach. Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and communicate with all people and experience levels. Ability to work under limited supervision on a diverse and complex scope and resolve issues creatively. Ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. English language skills required for effective performance. Commitment to providing courteous and professional experiences to internal and external customers. Ability to work independently and as part of a team (or supervise, if required). Ability to uphold MBTA rights and maintain effective relationships with employees and co-workers. Substitutions Include
A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement. An Associate’s Degree with an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement. A Master’s Degree substitutes for two (2) years of general experience. A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification substitutes for one (1) year of experience. Additional years of experience in administration or coordination duties supporting a large department or group. Experience providing project support in a public sector, transit, and/or facilities environment. Experience in a transportation agency or with automated fare collection. Job Conditions
Ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions in English. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age, unless participating in an approved high school internship / co-op program. Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role. Ability to provide courteous and professional experiences to internal and external customers. Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a diverse workforce team (or supervise, if required).
