Prevention Education Specialist - HIV/Viral Hepatitis
Part Time Job Summary The National Clinician Consultation Center (NCCC) HIV/Viral Hepatitis Prevention Education Specialist will be responsible for providing clinical education to NCCC's external users/learners via the program's teleconsultation services and public-facing resources. The Prevention Education Specialist will utilize clinical training and relevant practice experience regarding HIV and viral hepatitis prevention and care to provide clinical education directly to NCCC users seeking information via HIV/viral hepatitis prevention teleconsultation services. This includes answering incoming calls from clinicians nationally regarding transmission prevention, including bloodborne pathogen exposure evaluation and management and post-exposure prophylaxis initiation. The incumbent will also perform administrative/operational duties that accompany the educator role, such as collecting and documenting education/training activity information for reporting, preparing materials for callers, participating in quality improvement meetings, and assisting with relevant regulatory activities to ensure program compliance. Education domains may include best and emerging practices in HIV/viral hepatitis prevention, teamwork with allied professionals to deliver care, and impacts of systems/policy changes on health care delivery for highly impacted populations. The Prevention Education Specialist will interface with diverse internal and external stakeholders and is expected to apply a warm and non-judgmental manner while demonstrating interpersonal professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity. NCCC staff are expected to maintain collaboration to standardize workflows and processes to ensure high-quality services and program deliverables. Currently the NCCC offers services 7 days/week; applicants for this position are needed to staff weekend PEPline operations only. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on factors including work experience and internal equity within UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $106,400 - $193,500 (Annual Rate). NCCC provides rapid, state-of-the-art HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and substance use education and guidance to health care providers across the country through toll-free teleconsultation and online services. Core clinical education topic areas include: HIV and viral hepatitis prevention, evaluation and management including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis and ART Substance use evaluation and management including medications for substance use disorder treatment Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training Graduate-level degree in health professions training (e.g., MD/DO, MSN/DNP, Masters in PA studies, PharmD) Valid Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Pharmacist license Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in HIV/viral hepatitis prevention and care, including HIV/viral hepatitis screening, post-exposure prophylaxis initiation, ARV interactions/toxicity, HBV/HCV transmission prevention, and STI prevention Minimum 3 years’ experience analyzing clinical studies and translating new developments into clinical practice/guidance Excellent verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, and counseling skills; ability to handle sensitive information discreetly Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across the organization Knowledge of current and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning goals Demonstrated competence in clinical practice, communication, case management, leadership, problem solving, and clinical teaching/training Ability to document encounters accurately and timely Preferred Qualifications Board Certification in Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or General Internal Medicine AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Pharmacist, or HIV Clinical Fellowship experience Experience evaluating and managing complex bloodborne pathogen exposures (e.g., pregnancy/breastfeeding, chronic health conditions, persons on PrEP) Experience training diverse clinical learners Experience working cross-functionally with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders License/Certification Board Certification in Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or General Internal Medicine AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Pharmacist, or HIV Clinical Fellowship experience About UCSF The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through biomedical research, education, and patient care.
