Overview
Clinical Education Specialist - HIV and Viral Hepatitis Position type: Part Time. Location: San Francisco, CA (Zuckerberg San Francisco General, ZSFG). Appointment end date: 30-Jun-2026. Work style: Fully Remote. Shift: Days, Weekends. 30% appointment. Responsibilities
Provide clinical education to NCCC's external users/learners via teleconsultation services and public-facing resources. Answer incoming calls from clinicians nationally regarding HIV, viral hepatitis, and co-occurring conditions (e.g., substance use/behavioral health disorders) as appropriate to training and clinical experience. Perform administrative/operational duties related to education and program activities, including documenting education/training activity for reporting, preparing materials for callers, and participating in quality improvement meetings and related activities. Assist with regulatory activities to ensure program compliance as appropriate. Contribute to education in domains such as best practices in HIV/viral hepatitis/SUD care, team-based care, and the impact of systems/policy changes on care delivery for people living with HIV/viral hepatitis/SUD. Interface with diverse internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity. Contribute to standardized workflows and processes to ensure high-quality services and deliverables. Support staffing of services on weekends as needed to meet program needs and applicant availability. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Graduate-level degree in a health professions field (e.g., MD/DO, MSN/DNP, Masters in PA studies, PharmD). Valid license (Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Pharmacist). Minimum 5 years of experience analyzing clinical studies and translating new developments into clinical practice or guidance to clinical providers. Minimum 5 years of HIV primary care clinical experience, including HIV screening/testing, ART selection and management, resistance testing interpretation, opportunistic infection management, drug interactions and toxicity, PrEP initiation and management, and STI/BBP screening. Minimum 3 years of viral hepatitis care clinical experience, including screening/testing, liver disease staging, antiviral treatment strategies, resistance testing interpretation, drug interactions and toxicity, and prevention of HBV/HCV transmission. Strong documentation skills and timely clinical documentation. Demonstrated competence in clinical practice, communication, case management, leadership, problem identification/resolution, and clinical teaching/training. Excellent organizational and project-management abilities; ability to lead projects from inception to completion on schedule. Strong interpersonal skills with diplomacy and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence leadership and staff. Preferred Qualifications
Board Certification in Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or General Internal Medicine. AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Pharmacist, or HIV Clinical Fellowship experience. Experience training diverse groups of clinical learners and working cross-functionally with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. Minimum 3 years of substance use primary care clinical experience (SUD screening/diagnosis, withdrawal management, initiation/maintenance of SUD treatment, toxicology interpretation, harm reduction, and pharmacotherapies). Experience preventing and managing complex blood-borne pathogen exposures (HIV, HBV, HCV). Minimum 3 years of perinatal HIV care clinical experience (pregnancy HIV screening, labor/delivery interventions, management of exposed infants, antiretroviral management during pregnancy and postpartum). Expert knowledge of educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning; ability to facilitate technology-based educational opportunities. License/Certification
Board Certification in Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or General Internal Medicine (preferred). AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Pharmacist, or HIV Clinical Fellowship experience (preferred). About UCSF
