Staff Sensor Hardware Engineer, Tesla Bot — Join to apply for the role at Tesla. What To Expect
The Sensing Hardware Team is responsible for architecting, designing, validating and integrating state-of-the-art sensing technologies for the Tesla Bot. The sensors developed support manipulation and locomotion. As a Sensor Hardware Engineer for Tesla Bot, you will be responsible for overall performance of the sensing system and its features at any point in the product life cycle, act as the owner of a given sensing system to address issues from development through deployment, understand and debug hardware and software interactions from prototyping through product launch, and manage priorities while supporting multiple projects. What You'll Do
Drive the design and execution of sensing subsystems through generation, collaboration, architecture definition, schematic design, PCB layout, BOM definition, prototyping, validation, qualification and production Lead cross-functional sensor design discussions with electrical, software, supply chain, manufacturing, thermal, and mechanical teams and translate discussions into system block diagrams, functional and performance requirements Use EDA tools to define electrical components and their connectivity and supervise the generation of board design files through all design phases Work with the supply chain team to ensure components meet performance, cost and manufacturing requirements; support early sensor prototype development to de-risk new technologies and generate/execute test plans that align with the program timeline Ensure hardware meets design criteria across environments and regulations while collaborating with reliability, test and homologation teams; work with manufacturing/test teams and suppliers to achieve high-volume mass production with high yield Be responsible for the overall performance of the sensing system and its features at any point in the product life cycle Serve as the owner of a given sensing system to address issues from development through deployment Understand and debug hardware and software interactions from prototyping through product launch and manage priorities across multiple projects What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience demonstrating exceptional expertise Fundamental knowledge of circuit design, analog analysis, sensor physics, and statistics Strong electrical engineering background in board-level analog and mixed-signal design Hands-on experience in system-level design, architecture, characterization and validation Prior experience in touch sensors, force sensors, pressure sensors or inertial sensors preferred Proven cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, SPICE, or similar tools Proficiency in data visualization and statistical analysis Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience in high-volume mass production, working with suppliers and contract manufacturers Benefits
