OAG - Child Support | Director of Data Analytics (Director II-IV) | 26-0019 – Texas Attorney General The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is a dynamic organization with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Our agency provides exemplary legal representation for every arm of the State, fights human trafficking, helps victims of crime, protects our constituents, and runs the most effective Child Support Enforcement program. The Director of Data Analytics will serve as the State’s senior technical leader for enterprise analytics at the OAG. This role will provide the vision and raise the bar for aiding our workforce through insightful, value-added analytics as a program and service. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive analytics strategy that empowers agency leadership, program areas, and staff with timely, reliable, and actionable insights. The Director will drive the design, implementation, and adoption of modern analytics platforms, self-service reporting, and data-driven decision-making practices across the organization. The successful candidate will be both a visionary strategist and a hands-on technical expert, with deep experience leading state-level data programs, modernizing analytics capabilities, and delivering measurable value in a highly regulated, data-heavy environment. Responsibilities Develop and execute a multi-year enterprise analytics strategy that aligns with OAG’s mission, legislative priorities, and modernization goals.
Champion data-driven decision-making, leveraging advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-assisted insights to improve program outcomes and operational efficiency.
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the value and impact of analytics initiatives.
Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, division chiefs, and program managers on analytics opportunities, risks, and strategic priorities.
Lead and manage a high-performing data analytics team, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and oversight to ensure delivery of impactful insights and solutions.
Lead the design, deployment, and adoption of self-service analytics environments to empower business users and reduce IT dependency.
Partner with the Data Architecture team to integrate analytics solutions with enterprise data platforms using best practices for scalability, performance, and security.
Oversee modernization of analytics infrastructure, including streaming/messaging platforms for real-time insights and aggregated data views.
Ensure analytics pipelines and reporting solutions are secure, compliant, and aligned with data governance, privacy, and cybersecurity requirements.
Direct advanced analytics and data engineering teams in implementing ELT pipelines, data models, and analytical APIs to support operational and strategic needs.
Collaborate with Data Governance, Data Architecture, Cybersecurity, and others to ensure consistency, compliance, and interoperability across systems.
Establish data literacy programs and training to enhance agency-wide adoption of analytics tools and best practices.
Represent OAG in legislative sessions, state analytics workgroups, and national forums, advocating for data and analytics innovation.
Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with technology programs and projects, ensuring compliance with security and regulatory standards.
Assist in the risk management of data across the organization and proactively address issues that may impact timelines or objectives.
Qualifications Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: Four years in computer science, data science, statistics, information systems, or related field; at least 5 years in a director-level capacity in state or federal government with enterprise analytics strategy and self-service adoption at scale.
Experience leading teams and integrating tools for data warehousing, streaming platforms, and visualization tools.
Experience leading and managing software engineering teams focused on enterprise business applications; ability to grow new engineering leaders.
Proficiency in coding/scripting (Python, Java, Scala) and modern programming languages (Python, Java, Scala, SQL) and ELT methodologies.
Knowledge of data governance, privacy, security, compliance frameworks; familiarity with applicable laws and regulations; agile project management.
Strong communication skills for presenting to executives, program staff, and external stakeholders; ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Ability to meet on-site requirements, travel, and lift up to 10 lbs; up to 5% overnight travel.
Director II–IV progression: Additional years of relevant experience as described for each level (Director III and Director IV).
Preferred Qualifications Experience with Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES) or other large-scale public sector case management systems.
Knowledge of Texas data privacy laws, federal regulations (HIPAA, CJIS), and related compliance frameworks.
PMP, CDMP, or equivalent credential.
Demonstrated success leading analytics modernization in a highly regulated, multi-program agency.
