Supplier Development Engineer, Motors & Magnets
role at
1X . Build the supply chain powering humanoid robots. At 1X, we’re designing intelligent, safe humanoid robots to address the world’s labor shortages—starting in the home and scaling globally. We design and build every part of our robots in-house, combining engineering, manufacturing, and AI under one roof. At 1X, you’ll own supplier development for the
motors, rotors/stators, and magnetic components
that bring actuation and precision motion to life in our humanoids. You’ll work with world-class engineers and suppliers to ensure these critical components are designed, industrialized, and scaled to the highest quality standards. Your work will directly enable the safe and reliable delivery of humanoids into the real world.
What You’ll Do
Partner with Engineering and Sourcing teams to select and qualify suppliers for motors, stators/rotors, and magnet assemblies
Evaluate supplier processes including motor winding, rotor/stator assembly, and magnet bonding
Lead supplier industrialization and process validation from design through production ramp-up (APQP, PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ)
Support suppliers with tooling, equipment, and fixture qualification for precision motor manufacturing
Ensure consistency in torque-speed performance, thermal characteristics, and EMI compliance
Drive supplier audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
Train and align suppliers on 1X’s quality systems and expectations
Travel up to 40% (domestic and international) for supplier engagement and build support
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering field
6+ years in supplier quality, manufacturing, or supplier development (automotive, aerospace, or medical devices preferred)
Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, GD&T, CAPA, and 8D problem solving
Proven track record launching NPI and scaling motor or electromechanical supplier processes
Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent quality systems
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to work hands-on at supplier sites
Certifications (CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt, Lead Auditor) are a plus
Let’s make history. We value smart, kind, mission-driven people. If you’re excited but not sure you meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
