Supplier Development Engineer, Structures

at 1X — Join to apply for this role and help build the backbone of our robots. Build the supply chain powering humanoid robots. At 1X, we’re designing intelligent, safe humanoid robots to address the world’s labor shortages—starting in the home and scaling globally. We design and build every part of our robots in-house, combining engineering, manufacturing, and AI under one roof. At 1X, you’ll own supplier development for castings, machined parts, sheet metal, extrusions, and structural assemblies—the backbone of our robots’ mechanical systems. You’ll work with world-class engineers and suppliers to ensure these precision structural components are designed, industrialized, and scaled to the highest quality standards. Your work will directly enable the safe and reliable delivery of humanoids into the real world. What You’ll Do

Partner with Engineering and Sourcing to select and qualify suppliers for castings, machining, sheet metal, and structural assemblies Collaborate with suppliers on DFM/DFX reviews, light-weighting initiatives, and process optimization Lead supplier industrialization and validation from design through production ramp-up (APQP, PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ) Audit supplier processes, including machining, welding, heat treatment, coatings, and surface finishing Drive supplier audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement across the structural commodity supply base Monitor and report supplier quality metrics to ensure readiness and mitigate risk during build ramps Train and align suppliers on 1X’s quality systems and expectations Travel up to 40% (domestic and international) for supplier engagement and build support What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering field 6+ years in supplier quality, supplier development, or manufacturing (automotive, aerospace, or medical devices preferred) Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, GD&T, CAPA, and 8D problem solving Proven track record launching NPI and scaling supplier processes for structural/mechanical commodities Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100 or equivalent quality systems Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to work hands-on at supplier sites Certifications (CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt, Lead Auditor) are a plus Let’s make history.
