The Center for Leadership and Involvement (CLI) serves as the core of the co-curricular experience at the University of Chicago. CLI plays a formative role in the Campus and Student Life goal of creating a comprehensive and integrated network of services that support the academic mission and facilitate student learning, engagement, and success. The Associate Director for Co-curricular Advising is a critical member of the CLI senior management team who leads the day-to-day operations of student life programming, student co-curricular advising and leadership programming in CLI.
Job Summary
The Coordinator for Leadership Development serves as a resource for student leaders, supports organizational development, and creates and manages a portfolio of leadership development resources for students. The Coordinator for Leadership Development will advise a diverse portfolio of Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), facilitate student leadership development workshops, and collaborate to produce and disseminate communications for the UChicago Leads initiative. As a member of the Center for Leadership and Involvement (CLI), the Coordinator for Leadership Development supports the mission and vision of the unit, by working with students and staff to actively encourage involvement in student organizations, various programs, and overall student life at the University of Chicago.
Responsibilities
Advise and support a diverse portfolio of student organizations. For the assigned student organizations, this could include, but is not limited to, offering programming advice and assistance, mentoring organizational leadership, attending organizational meetings and events, assessing organizational risk and ensuring compliance with University policy, developing training opportunities and materials, promoting financial competency through fiscal management accountability and skills development, and providing connection to campus resources. Work with the Assistant Director to develop programs for fostering leadership development among students and student groups that are consistent with student development goals for the unit. Create and oversee the implementation of comprehensive educational workshops and program curricula grounded in student leadership development, intercultural development, and other areas of student learning theory and current best practices. Deliver and administer high quality, innovative workshops and programs to a wide number of constituencies (undergraduate and graduate students, student organizations, university units and the campus community) in a developmental, ethical, and culturally competent manner. Collaborate with key campus partners to develop tailored leadership programming for various offices and departments. Oversee the nomination and selection process for the annual University Student Leader Awards, including the marketing of the awards, solicitation of nominations, database management, and coordination of all ceremony logistics and details. Collaborate with staff to create a robust communication and web presence strategy for CLI initiatives through the development and publishing of content on the departmental website and social media platforms highlighting student involvement. Responsible for the development of departmental marketing materials, newsletter, and will hire, train, and supervise a student Graphic Designer to support in these efforts. Serve as a member of the Center for Leadership and Involvement staff and assist with various office programs and projects. This includes assisting with other Campus and Student Life programs, RSO events, and other duties as assigned. Coordinates with the students and staff to develop activities, programs, and initiatives related to student life, and/or community involvement. Develops and implements straightforward programming. Advises, supports, and recommends concepts for programming to leaders of various organizations and programs. Performs other related work as needed. Qualifications
Education Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field. Work Experience Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications N/A Preferred Qualifications
Education Bachelor's degree in liberal arts; Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or student personnel. Experience Demonstrated success in working with diverse and complex student organizations; two years of experience in working with students and advising student organizations in a student affairs or student life environment; event planning experience; experience in organization budget management; experience in the preparation and presentation of workshops preferred; excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution techniques; ability to work independently; minimum of one year of experience managing projects or programs; ability to understand the needs of the University of Chicago community and work with students, faculty and staff in a wide array of situations is essential. Working Conditions
