Overview
Job Title : Chief Financial Officer Reporting Structure : Reports to Head of School, member of School Leadership Team FLSA Classification : Exempt General Classification : Salaried, Full-Time, Regular Location : Bellevue, WA | open to remote work 1-2 days per week Position Summary : The Chief Financial Officer plays a vital role in the Jewish Day School of Seattle’s Administration team, overseeing the school’s strategic financial planning, overall financial health, risk management, and oversight of financial compliance and audit processes. This position is a member of the Leadership Team leading strategic finance, financial operations, benefits, and overseeing the Business Operations Manager. Working closely with Leadership, Administration, Teachers, and other staff, this role combines creating and driving business strategy with fiduciary acuity to manage the school’s budget and overall fiscal responsibility. Key Responsibilities
Strategically partnering with the Head of School to develop short and long-range budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that align with the strategic priorities of the school Partner with the Head of School and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees to plan and facilitate finance committee meetings Manage bank accounts and investment portfolios, with a focus on liquidity, risk, and financial stability Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal staff and external stakeholders, including Finance Committee, Board, and Funders Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, tuition receivable, payroll, and employee benefits Prepare for and oversee annual financial statement audit and tax reporting process Evaluate and oversee risk management, including insurance coverage and claims Maintain strong relationships with funders and community partners; create all required reporting Participate in funder meetings regarding tuition assistance, maintain reporting, act as liaison for families in the tuition assistance process Along with Head of School, oversee facilities maintenance and operations Participate in regular school leadership, Board of Trustees, and business operations meetings Establish and cultivate community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all the school’s constituencies Actively participate in the full life of the school, including admission, development, and programmatic events Engage in professional development; aim to use up-to-date technologies to maintain high standards of performance Familiar with and compliant with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents Maintains safety and security as part of everyone’s responsibility Performs other duties as assigned Key Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or similar, plus 10 years of experience in a financial leadership position; advanced degree and/or certifications may substitute; advanced degree preferred High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Strong organizational skills Reliable and committed to meeting deadlines Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as on a team Ability to communicate and work effectively with all school constituencies Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor Ability to keep information confidential Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity Proficient in Microsoft Windows environment, Office; experience with Excel, Word, DocuSign, QuickBooks, Blackbaud or other school data management software Ability to master common automated systems for record keeping and learn new technology Physical Duties & Work Environment
Typical office and school environment, most work indoors Ability to sit/stand at a computer for extended periods Ability to take phone calls and video calls throughout the day with internal and external clients Ability to stand, reach, grasp, review physical documents and online information, and move about in a typical office/school environment What We Offer
Jewish Day School of Seattle pays a gross annualized base salary range for this position between $140,000 and $170,000 based on qualifications, skills, experience, company values, and culture alignment. Additionally, the role includes the following benefits: Company-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees, plus employee-paid benefits for dependents 15 days of vacation, plus 14 company holidays, 2 additional personal days, and paid sick leave 403(b) program with 3% company match, after 1 year of employment JDS seeks to make reasonable accommodations that enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties where possible.
