The Opportunity: Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson’s Office is seeking an experienced communications professional to provide consistent, timely, mission-driven and politically-sensitive communications across a broad range of channels and audiences. This role requires dynamism on the page, consistency of voice, and a thorough grasp of communications best practices as they play out in real world situations. You will help capture and develop the voice of one of our most dynamic local leaders, promote transparency and accountability, and demonstrate thoughtful use of taxpayer resources. Content Creation Write compelling content for multiple uses. Maintain a consistent voice across multiple channels. Convey county policies, values and positions; promote transparency and demonstrate responsible use of taxpayer resources. Prepare speeches, scripts, board materials, letters, newsletters, social posts, event memos, and media responses on message and deadline. Produce content that responds to information requests from constituents and other elected officials and leaders. Content Editing & Review Collaborate with teams to produce, review and edit communications for internal and external partners. Assist Chair’s team and Central Communications to deliver timely and consistent communications. Stay up-to-date on current policy concerns and political topics to inform time-sensitive communications. Communications Strategy & Project Management Bring a strategic voice across the broader communications system. Establish and maintain strong networks with internal and external stakeholders. Timeline and manage external and internal communications releases efficiently. Manage ongoing and one-time projects and events. Lead and participate on committees and special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills Bachelor's degree; in lieu of degree, equivalent years of relevant experience will be considered. Five (5) years of experience performing essential functions, including but not limited to: Consistent work in communications and storytelling strategy. Experience in a writing-heavy role with voice management; experience in politics or with elected officials is a plus. Ability to collaborate across audiences and stakeholders with diverse partners. Strong knowledge of communications best practices. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders. *Transferable skills:

The pay range is intended as general guidance. Actual compensation will be determined under Oregon law and based on relevant experience, education, seniority, training, and tenure. Initial offers may be within the listed range and may not be at the top. Disaster and Public Service:

County staff serve as a safety net for the community. In emergencies, employees may be reassigned to support critical needs. For more information, see the disaster service worker information page. Additional Information: This is a Staff Assistant position, Unclassified, serving at the pleasure of the Elected Official and may be discharged at any time. This is a Limited Duration position through June 30, 2026, with possible extension. This is a salary, executive position not eligible for overtime. Work location varies with a hybrid schedule: generally onsite Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with remote on Wednesday and Friday when possible. Onsite location: Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; ongoing telework from other locations is not supported.
