Overview
Director, Assistant General Counsel - Marketing Platform We\'re looking for an experienced and collaborative legal leader to join our growing TechReg Legal team. This is a unique opportunity to act as the lead legal partner for our marketing, messaging and personalization infrastructure. You\'ll partner closely with our Product, Engineering, and Design teams, providing clear, practical legal advice that helps us innovate while navigating a complex regulatory landscape. You\'ll work on everything from product counseling to managing privacy and ad tech issues. What you\'ll do
Be a strategic thought partner and advisor:
Provide proactive, business-minded legal advice to our senior product leaders on the evolution of our marketing platform, focusing on privacy-by-design principles. You\'ll also be an investigator who drills down into how we do what we do and why, so we can build a better way. You\'ll understand the business\' objectives, the full landscape and context of the applicable law, and you\'ll work through unchartered territory as you apply the law to business initiatives. Navigate the ad tech ecosystem and its stakeholders:
Act as the subject matter expert on a wide range of ad tech legal issues, including digital tracking technologies and data management. Advise on data privacy laws and regulations, including the GLBA, CCPA, and evolving state and international frameworks. You\'ll understand the business (e.g., consumer credit, customer identity management, fraud prevention), understand the technology, and translate between business intent, regulatory requirements, legal guardrails, and best practices. You don\'t need to know everything about everything, but you\'ll need to know a little about a lot and how to communicate legal requirements to the business, and business requirements to legal subject matter experts. Advise on vendor partnerships:
Partner with our business team and supplier management team to negotiate complex commercial agreements with ad tech vendors, data providers, and marketing partners. Build scalable solutions:
Help build processes, playbooks, and training materials that enable our marketing and product teams to move quickly and confidently. Examples of tasks you would be responsible for
Reviewing product feature changes for regulatory compliance issues
by meeting with business partners to better understand the feature, identifying legal obligations or risks, and providing recommendations to manage legal risk (e.g., revising user-facing content, drafting product terms and disclosures, and assisting with strategic partnership integrations). Performing legal research
on the application of existing and new laws to novel technology implementations, developing legal theories, and influencing business strategy and decisions. Who you are

You have a passion for technology, a desire to own your work, and a collaborative spirit. You are deeply familiar with the nuances of data privacy and the digital advertising ecosystem. Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
At least 5 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, government, military judge advocate, or in-house counsel
At least 5 years of experience in privacy, ad tech, and product counseling
Preferred Qualifications
8+ years of experience in data privacy and security laws, including CCPA
8+ years of experience focused on ad tech, including online tracking technologies and affiliate data sharing
In-house product counseling experience supporting ecommerce, mobile apps, payments or software products
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to build strong relationships across teams

Monday–Thursday are options for in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our team areas. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked. McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Asst General Counsel; New York, NY: $246,500 - $281,300 for Director, Asst General Counsel. Candidates hired in other locations will be paid according to that location\'s pay range. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
