Senior Director, Epic Applications

to lead and optimize our Epic application strategy, beginning with implementation and continuing through long-term delivery, support, and innovation. This role is critical to ensuring the successful deployment, performance, and evolution of our Epic platform to support compassionate, safe, and efficient care.

Position Overview The

Senior Director, Epic Applications

provides enterprise-wide leadership, strategic vision, and operational oversight of all Epic applications. With responsibility for the platform, including inpatient, ambulatory, revenue cycle, and ancillary domains, this leader plays a central role in guiding Baptist Health through the Epic implementation lifecycle and into long-term optimization and digital maturity.

This onsite role reports to the

Assistant Vice President, EHR & Patient Financial Solutions

and collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and technology executives to ensure the Epic platform meets the system’s strategic, clinical, and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities Epic Implementation Leadership

Serve as a key senior leader for Baptist Health’s Epic system implementation. Guide the successful planning, execution, and stabilization of go-live across all care and business domains.

Oversee build, testing, workflow validation, training readiness, cutover planning, go-live support, and post-live optimization efforts.

Partner with implementation leaders, Epic Corporation, and third-party vendors to ensure scope, timeline, and resource alignment.

Identify and manage risks across implementation phases and coordinate resolutions through structured governance and communication.

Ensure clinical and business readiness for go-live by coordinating with training, change management, and operational leadership.

Strategic Leadership

Define and execute an enterprise Epic strategy that aligns with Baptist Health’s clinical, operational, and digital transformation priorities, both during implementation and over the long term.

Promote an “Epic First” philosophy that prioritizes use of native functionality, standardization, and integration.

Lead roadmap planning, Epic upgrade adoption, and functional optimization to support value-based care, patient access, digital health, and revenue performance.

Operational Management

Ensure the availability, performance, and ongoing optimization of all Epic systems, including inpatient, outpatient, pharmacy, radiology, HIM, and revenue cycle modules.

Manage change intake, governance, and release management processes to support smooth implementation and future enhancements.

Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to maintain a secure, stable, and scalable Epic environment.

Team Leadership and Workforce Development

Lead and develop a high-performing team of Epic managers and analysts across multiple application domains.

Ensure implementation staffing models align with project and support demands, using agile and scalable resourcing strategies.

Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, psychological safety, and service excellence.

Drive Epic certification compliance, skills development, and career pathways that prepare the team for post-go-live success and long-term innovation.

Collaboration and Governance

Serve as a key partner to clinical and operational leaders to ensure that Epic workflows are aligned with care delivery, regulatory compliance, and performance goals.

Participate in and lead Epic-related governance bodies, steering committees, and stakeholder forums across the implementation lifecycle and beyond.

Lead cross-functional “Fusion” teams to co-design, validate, and deploy optimized Epic workflows that improve clinician experience and patient outcomes.

Financial Stewardship and Vendor Management

Develop and manage implementation and operational budgets for Epic applications. Ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.

Oversee vendor and consultant relationships, including Epic Corporation and implementation partners. Ensure performance against service level agreements.

Identify opportunities to eliminate duplicative systems, reduce technical debt, and increase platform ROI.

Innovation and Digital Transformation

Evaluate and implement emerging Epic tools such as ambient documentation, artificial intelligence, and digital patient engagement.

Drive participation in Epic’s Good Install, Honor Roll and Gold Stars programs to achieve national benchmarks and maximize platform capabilities.

Align Epic infrastructure and build decisions with enterprise analytics and reporting needs.

Estimated salary range for this position is $235,764.42 - $306,493.75 / year depending on experience.

Qualifications Education

Master’s degree in Health Administration, Informatics, Business, Technology or a related field is required.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of healthcare IT leadership experience in large, complex health systems is required.

At least 5 years of direct Epic experience, including major implementations, upgrades, or optimization initiatives, is required.

Demonstrated leadership during full-cycle Epic installations, from planning to go-live and post-implementation support, is strongly preferred.

Experience managing Epic across clinical and revenue cycle functions is required.

Proven success collaborating with cross-functional executive, clinical, and technology teams is required.

Minimum Required Experience: 15 years

Skills and Competencies

Deep understanding of Epic platform capabilities, workflows, and system architecture.

Strong change management and stakeholder engagement skills during large-scale transformation.

Expertise in Epic implementation methodologies, training coordination, and operational readiness.

High level of proficiency in budget development, vendor negotiation, and contract oversight.

Strong communicator with the ability to influence across clinical, operational, and executive domains.

Agile mindset with the ability to lead iterative delivery in a fast-paced environment.

Strong alignment with Baptist Health’s values of compassion, excellence, integrity, and faith-based service.

Certifications

Epic certification(s) in relevant modules are highly preferred.

PMP or equivalent project or program management certification is preferred.
