Job Description
Under the direction of the Manager or Supervisor, this job is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate tax compliance and delivering insightful consulting services across assigned accounts, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations. Assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Review — Reviews individual, non-profit, trust, estate, and Generation Skipping Tax (GST) tax returns for accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
Tax Compliance & Review — Analyzes estimated tax payments to minimize underpayment penalties in line with department standards.
Tax Compliance & Review — Prepares General Excise Tax (GET) / Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT) filings for all required reporting periods (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual).
Engagement Management — Maintains engagement records, including timekeeping, due date tracking, account setup, and account closure.
Engagement Management — Communicates progress, challenges, and solutions to supervisors in a timely and professional manner.
Collaboration & Communication — Coordinates with vendors and internal/external clients to support ongoing projects and ensure engagement milestones are met.
Collaboration & Communication — Interacts with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents and state/local tax authorities to resolve issues and maintain professional relationships.
Collaboration & Communication — Drafts clear, concise memos and correspondence to support tax positions and communicate findings.
Technology & Research — Utilizes tax software and internal systems (e.g., OneSource, Trust Tax Engine, HDOT) to improve workflow efficiency.
Technology & Research — Applies research tools to identify, analyze, and document tax issues and conclusions in a clear, well-supported format.
Tax Consulting & Planning — Provides timely, accurate tax consulting services under supervision.
Tax Consulting & Planning — Applies knowledge of federal and state tax laws to client situations and identifies opportunities for creative tax planning strategies.
Tax Consulting & Planning — Stays current on technical tax issues, including Nonresident Alien (NRA) tax determinations, GST, and 706 estate filings.
Tax Consulting & Planning — Performs other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires use of a personal computer and other standard office equipment
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required. CPA or Enrolled Agent designation required. Master’s degree in taxation or MBA preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant tax experience, or 3 years with a master’s in taxation. Strong knowledge of income tax provisions. Experience in retirement, investment, or financial services preferred.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in a networked environment and Microsoft Office applications or similar software. Familiarity with bank systems and tax software preferred. Strong skills in relational databases, spreadsheets, and data analysis.
Other Job Qualifications: Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to identify risks and process improvement opportunities. Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal. Proven ability to build strong client and team relationships with a collaborative, consultative approach. Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Flexible schedule, including availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Salary Expectations: $100-120k/yr. (based on experience)
