We’re building the AI-powered super shopping app – a platform designed to streamline how people discover and buy products online. Our mission is to help people get the best deals on the products they love, combining AI with a seamless and reliable shopping experience. We’re an early-stage startup based in San Francisco, led by the founder of Waymo and Udacity. We value engineering excellence, speed, and product-minded thinking. Our Infrastructure team powers the backend services across the platform, from real-time product updates to intelligent AI workflows. We’re looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join our Infrastructure team and own the backend systems that drive our AI-powered features and shopping experiences. This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on owning, building, and evolving the backend infrastructure to support a fast-moving product and data teams. Responsibilities
Architect and implement backend services that power AI-driven shopping features Write, test, and maintain high-quality, production-grade code Drive fast, reliable, and safe release workflows across backend systems Build scalable APIs and pipelines for brand and retail partner integrations Enhance system maintainability, reliability, and observability across the stack Collaborate with infrastructure, AI, and product teams to align on priorities and technical solutions Champion engineering best practices and mentor others through code and design reviews Qualifications
5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of leading and owning major systems Deep experience with TypeScript (Node.js) and/or Python in production environments Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems and APIs Strong familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and release management Hands-on mindset with a passion for clean, maintainable, and scalable code Bonus: experience supporting AI/ML infrastructure or partner-facing APIs Bonus: startup experience and comfort working in high-velocity environments Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Storage) Deployment & monitoring: Git-based workflows, third-party observability tools Why Join Us
