Overview
Legal Knowledge Management Specialist at Troutman Pepper Locke LLP. The KM Specialist will work with the Director of Knowledge Solutions and KM team to organize, maintain, and optimize knowledge resources, ensuring efficient access and utilization across the firm. Responsibilities include planning and delivering training (including on Generative AI tools and emerging technologies), developing communications strategies, and supporting KM solutions across the firm. The KM Specialist will assist with collection, categorization, organization, and maintenance of legal documents, templates, and best practices to support knowledge management across the firm. Develop, deploy, and manage a portfolio of legal knowledge management solutions and tools in collaboration with the Director of Knowledge Solutions and KM team. Maintain systems for legal forms and precedent libraries, implement data management systems, collect knowledge assets, and promote best practices for legal KM. Collaborate with practice group stakeholders to track and categorize new KM submissions and ensure information accuracy and consistency with established practices. Monitor KM content lifecycle; archive or update materials as needed with stakeholder input. Align KM taxonomy with other Firm resources to ensure consistency across content. Collaborate with Research Services to identify opportunities to leverage external content alongside internal content in KM queries. Plan, develop, and deliver training programs and materials for attorneys and staff on KM tools, intranet resources, and best practices; support onboarding and ongoing use of KM solutions. Provide training and assistance with accessing and using KM tools to all firm personnel. Analyze data from practice groups and contribute to internal and client-facing data projects; expand understanding of practice groups and relevant legal issues to support KM. Support day-to-day operations of the firm’s Legal KM tools, including content maintenance for intranet sites, databases, and KM resources. Mentor, train, and advise content managers and contributors to create engaging content for intranet and KM platforms. Keep stakeholders informed of progress and provide support for assigned tasks. Participate in after-action reviews for assigned projects and recommend process improvements to KM leadership. Ensure KM projects follow best practices and established standards, procedures, and quality objectives with the Director of Knowledge Solutions. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Proficiency with KM tools, especially document management systems; strong preference for iManage. Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Asana). Ability to keep practice group intranet pages up to date. Aptitude for communications and legal technologies that help lawyers work more effectively. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to produce quality communications (memos, spreadsheets, slides). Self-motivated, proactive problem-solving and innovation mindset. Understanding of typical attorney workflows and needs. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments in a fast-paced environment. Strong organization and time management skills. Discretion handling confidential information. Ability to manage multiple projects and re-prioritize as needed. Ability to influence without direct management authority. Commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and passion for KM, technology, innovation, and creative problem solving. Ability to establish credibility with the Firm’s lawyers and clients as a resource and internal consultant. Education And/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (preferred in library science, information management, business administration, communications, or related field). Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management and curation in a complex environment. Experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or other legal services provider environment. Knowledge management coursework or certification strongly desired. Experience planning and delivering training preferred. Prior project management experience required. Compensation
Salary range: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00. Compensation is dependent on factors such as position, location, education, training, and experience. Other
