The selected physician will establish and maintain professional relationships within Medical Service and with other services and facility management, to improve patient care. The Staff Physician - Hematology Oncology's primary role is to provide clinical care in Hematology and Oncology and to oversee the education of Fellows, Residents, and Medical Students within his/her practice area. Duties

Administrative:

Serve as acting chief of the section (if appropriate), as needed. Provide guidance and support to the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) assigned to Medical Service in their areas of expertise. Provide guidance and supervision for medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to General Medicine House Service/subspecialty services and clinics as directed by the Chief, Medical Service. Participate in and attend medical center committees as assigned by the Section Chief and/or Chief Medical Service. Participate in the selection of new staff and assist with promotions and recognition of outstanding performance. Revise work schedules and assignments to meet changes in workloads and deadlines to meet patient care, healthcare, and agency needs; follow agency time/attendance standards. Participate in facility programs to enhance patient care services (e.g., CQI teams) as assigned. Clinical:

Provide quality patient-centered care to adults in hematology/oncology as assigned by the Chief, Medical Service. Maintain approved clinical privileges in Hematology and Oncology and complete mandatory training for privileges. Demonstrate sound clinical and administrative decision-making that enhances professional standards. Diagnose and treat seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients as required by clinical assignments. Complete medical record documentation, encounters, and trainee supervision attestations within required timeframes. Develop initial plans of care and updates, serving as a resource for less experienced staff and leading in standards of care. Academic:

Participate in the formal education of residents and medical students through teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences. Participate in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees. Teach medical trainees in procedures to provide optimal patient care within the practice area. Assist in developing and implementing education and training programs for medical students and residents rotating through Medical Service. Meet scholarly activity requirements where applicable (e.g., peer-reviewed publication, national professional organization participation). Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, variable hours. Benefits & Rewards

Competitive salary plus annual performance bonus and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off:

50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and possible 5 days CME leave). Retirement:

Conditions of employment and basic qualifications apply as listed below. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy. Urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment; refusal denies employment. Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficient in written and spoken English. May be required to serve a probationary period and undergo background/security investigation. Complete online onboarding; acceptable ID documents per I-9 requirements; REAL ID compliance effective dates apply. Must pass pre-employment physical examination and participate in influenza vaccination program. Qualifications

or compliant non-citizen status per VA policy. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an appropriately approved school. Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the United States or territories or DC. Residency training approved by VA in an accredited core specialty leading to board eligibility. (Academic appointments may require board certification.) Other residencies with five years of verified US practice may be considered if deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Board eligible/board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from LCME- or AOA-accredited schools. Foreign medical graduates must verify ECFMG certification when applicable. Physical Requirements

Per VA Directive and Handbook 5019; physical examination required prior to placement. May involve standing/walking in clinical settings. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a dynamic environment. Additional Information
