Position Summary:

The Lilly Small Molecule Discovery (LSMD) organization creates and discovers new molecules to engage disease-relevant biological systems, test clinical hypotheses, and advance innovative medicines. To accelerate delivery of unique medicines and optimize research investment, innovative use of computational tools is integral. Lilly’s Early Molecule Discovery (EMD) team is responsible for small molecule hit-to-lead prosecution through the application of best-in-class and novel approaches to pre-portfolio targets. We seek an internationally recognized Virtual Screening (VS) Applications Expert who will be accountable for small molecule VS activities. The (Senior / Executive) Director will collaborate across the computational, structural biology and medicinal chemistry organizations within the EMD and beyond to drive the application of transformative VS approaches to bolster Lilly’s ability to prosecute difficult-to-drug targets. This is an on-site role. We are seeking a candidate who is willing to relocate to San Diego (CA), Indianapolis (IN) or Louisville (CO).

Responsibilities

Drive the VS @Lilly platform within a matrix organization. Collaborate with new targets and existing therapeutic project teams to ensure VS is used to rapidly identify attractive small molecule starting points for Hit-ID and multi-generational drug discovery across Lilly. Pioneer the introduction of transformative methods into the VS@Lilly platform and push the boundaries of VS to deliver a capability unrivaled in the pharma industry. Work with key stakeholders to drive the VS@Lilly matrix to extend Lilly’s lead by identifying novel chemical starting points to support new and multigenerational drug discovery across MOAs and targets Collaborate with structural biologists and modelers to leverage structural/biophysical data to prepare targets for VS campaigns Deliver workflows that leverage physics- and AI-based modelling to enrich VS true-positive hit rates on hard-to-drug targets Champion and implement cutting-edge methods, including ensemble or AI-based VS techniques Develop and implement cheminformatics tools to maximize chemical and binding pocket feature space coverage for hypothesis exploration Work with medicinal chemists to triage VS hits for synthesis/purchase Streamline VS workflows with Tech @Lilly to ensure timely impact and broader adoption Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Computational Medicinal Chemistry or related field 5+ years’ experience applying VS technologies to drive drug discovery toward candidate identification and beyond Proven ability to champion new technologies and achieve successful applications Proven ability to inspire and lead scientists across teams, functions, departments and sites to accelerate portfolio deliveries Additional Skills/Preferences

The anticipated wage for this position is $184,500 - $270,600. Full-time employees are eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits program including 401(k), pension, health benefits, flexible benefits, life insurance, time off, and well-being programs.
