Overview

The Urologic Hospitalist is a specialized physician responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient care for patients with acute and chronic urological conditions. This role involves diagnosing, treating and managing a variety of urological disorders in a hospital setting and directing the urology inpatient consult service which extends to the Emergency Room and the Operating Room. A urologic hospitalist bridges specialized urologic care and comprehensive inpatient management, ensuring patients receive high-quality care during their hospital stay. The practice is supported by a mid-level urology resident and two advanced practice providers. Department/Division Overview The Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report for delivering high-quality care for urologic conditions. The department emphasizes clinical care, research, education, and community service with multiple divisions, fellows, and clinical programs. Duties and Responsibilities

Performs surgical procedures where assigned. Provides direct and indirect patient care services in the inpatient setting. Interviews, obtains and reviews medical history; performs examinations; orders procedures and diagnostic tests; responds to consultations; determines and implements treatment plans; documents services in the medical record; educates patients and families; communicates with referring physicians. Maintains accurate medical records in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Participates in peer reviews and audits to ensure high standards of care. Participates in hospital quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes in urology. Ensures continuing medical educational requirements are met; participates in department, college, and medical center committees and service activities. Serves as preceptor and provides training for residents, fellows, students, and other health professionals including advanced practice providers. Performs other duties and/or call assignments as defined by the Chair or designees. Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Licensed or license eligible in the State of Ohio and DEA licensure. Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Urology. Qualify for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate with residents, faculty, and other stakeholders. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects. Commitment to high standards of resident education and fostering a positive learning environment.
