Preql, Inc.
The Role
We're seeking a Software Engineer to build our user-facing AI services. Working with the lead Product Manager and technical leadership, you'll make AI-powered data transformation accessible to finance teams. What You'll Build: Web applications
that make AI-powered data transformation feel as simple as having a conversation while LLMs build the requisite complexity to codify the magic
Interactive workflows
where users can refine data cleaning through natural language feedback
Integration interfaces
for Excel, CSV, and financial systems like NetSuite and QuickBooks
Audit dashboards
that show transformation logic in terms finance teams understand
API integrations
that connect various financial data sources and export formats
Key Responsibilities: Build and iterate on web interfaces based on product specifications and user feedback
Develop full-stack features from frontend UI to backend API integration
Implement integrations with financial data sources and third-party systems
Create reporting tools and dashboards that meet enterprise audit requirements
Participate in customer demos to understand user needs and gather technical feedback
Collaborate with technical leadership on architecture and implementation decisions
Requirements
Technical Foundation: 4+ years building production web applications with modern frameworks (Typescript, Python, etc.)
Strong backend or full stack development experience
Experience with API development and third-party integrations
Understanding of databases, data processing, and common data formats (CSV, JSON, Excel)
Experience taking products from development to production deployment
Engineering Practices: Comfortable with agile development and working from product specifications
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern deployment practices
Understanding of security best practices for enterprise software
Ability to write maintainable, well-tested code with proper documentation
Collaboration Style: Comfortable working with product managers to understand requirements and user needs
Ability to participate in customer conversations and translate feedback into technical solutions
Experience working with technical leadership while owning implementation details
Strong Advantages
Nice-to-haves, but not strict requirements. Active Experimentation with LLM-based code-gen tools:
Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, etc. (n.b., we understand the many, many limitations of these tools; but, also appreciate where they can save time and enable focus on more important, higher-order challenges)
Data/Analytics Experience:
Previous work with data processing, ETL pipelines, or analytics platforms
AI/ML Integration:
Experience and/or demonstrable interest in working with and deploying LLM APIs, machine learning models, or AI-powered features
Enterprise Software:
Understanding of enterprise requirements like audit trails, compliance, and security
Financial Systems:
Familiarity with accounting software, ERP systems, or financial data workflows
Customer-Facing Experience:
Background in customer demos, technical sales, or user support
What Makes This Role Special
You'll build the interface between breakthrough LLM capabilities and real business needs with customers eager to build the future with us. Working with both product and technical leadership means you can focus on creating great user experiences while learning cutting-edge AI applications. Impact:
Your code directly determines whether finance teams trust and adopt AI for their critical workflows Growth:
Opportunity to drive leading-edge agentic AI systems for complex and critical data work Learning:
Hands-on experience with AI product development and enterprise software patterns Team & Culture
Small, focused founding team where your contributions have immediate impact. Direct exposure to customer feedback, rapid iteration cycles, and well-funded runway to build something significant. You'll work closely with our Product Manager on user requirements and feature specifications, while getting technical guidance from our CTO on architecture and implementation approaches as needed. Next Steps
Ready to build the user experience for the future of data transformation? Send us a 50-word note introducing yourself and why this role is interesting to you. Additionally, send us examples of applications you've built, especially anything involving data tools, user workflows, or AI integrations.
