We’re looking for a Managing Director to join our Institutional Sales team at Principal Asset Management where you will play a pivotal role in fostering inclusive partnerships and drive sustainable growth. Reporting to Amanda Wilson, Managing Director, Head of Distribution US & Canada Institutional and Global Consultant Relations, the Managing Director, Institutional Sales will be responsible for business development efforts in the Western region, primarily focused on institutional investors with $5B+ in investable assets. Responsibilities
Engage proactively: Forge meaningful relationships with large institutional asset owners, including public and corporate plans, endowments, foundations and health systems. Advocate our traditional and alternative investment products and solutions to address clients’ investment challenges and drive business growth. Strategic marketing initiatives: Develop and implement marketing strategies to cultivate relationships with prospective and existing clients through collaboration with Consultant Relations, Product, Marketing, Relationship Management, Client Service, and Investment teams. Product innovation: Contribute to the evolution of product offerings by participating in development and design to align with client needs and market trends. Goal achievement: Meet or exceed assets under management growth and revenue targets, expanding current client relationships and acquiring new clients. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus at least seven years related experience in the institutional asset management industry. Active FINRA Series 7 and 63 (or 66). Demonstrated expertise and deep understanding of the institutional asset management landscape. Experience with large institutional investors (>$5 billion in assets) including endowments, foundations, public and corporate pension plans, and health systems. Skills: strong communication, relationship management, and ability to execute a well-developed business plan; in-depth product knowledge; analytical and client-oriented approach. CFA and/or MBA. NFA licensing 3 (required). Location and Travel
Location options: remote or hybrid. Hybrid locations: Des Moines, Chicago, Denver, New York City, Charlotte, or Seattle. Preference is to live in the territory. Extensive travel required including client visits and industry conferences. Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $205,000 - $277,000 per year (non-exempt hourly equivalent noted where applicable). Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) for salaried employees; no accrual bank of time off.
