As a Wireless Network Engineer, you will be essential in facilitating effective wireless communication and enabling the digital connectivity of the UCSF community across the Health, Education, Research, and Business missions. You will continuously adapt to emerging technologies and industry standards to provide cutting-edge wireless solutions. Builds and maintains the UCSF wireless network. Provides network engineering and technical support for wireless network infrastructure, ensuring systems operate at peak efficiency with little to no downtime. Designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains UCSF network equipment across multiple platforms. Ensures all networking activities are aligned to industry best practices as well as IT and UCSF policies, processes, and procedures. The Wireless Network Engineer will report to the Associate Director, Wired and Wireless, who serves as a technical engineer for the network services team at UCSF. The Engineer is responsible for daily operational support, maintenance, improvement, documentation, and implementation of all network’s wireless services under the wired and wireless portfolio. Responsibilities

Provide daily operational support and maintenance for UCSF wireless services within the wired and wireless portfolio. Design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain wireless network equipment across multiple platforms. Ensure wireless networking activities follow industry best practices and UCSF IT policies and procedures. Lead and guide a team of engineers to drive innovative wireless solutions and deliver best-in-class service. Direct strategic and operational planning to meet current and future network service needs for a broad range of customers, partners, and stakeholders. Coordinate deployment and management of current and future IT systems aligned with campus growth and health mission goals. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or related field. Five or more years of experience in network services, field services, information technology, or network operations. Extensive experience in information technology, network engineering, or wireless networks, including troubleshooting wireless networks, site surveys, and packet analysis. Experience with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, RF design, WLAN fundamentals, LAN/WAN networking, and monitoring tools. Experience in designing controller clustering, failover methods, AP management, RF management, and wireless optimizations (AP placement, roaming, channel tuning, QoS). Experience documenting wireless networks, mapping APs to CAD or heat maps, and knowledge of modern enterprise TCP/IP networks (e.g., OSPF, BGP, STP, QoS, IPSEC). Strong communication, customer service, teamwork, and project management skills; ability to balance priorities and manage concurrent projects. On-site work in San Francisco as needed. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of local, state, and federal IT regulations, privacy laws, and service level adherence; experience handling confidential information. Experience with Aruba Wireless and ClearPass NAC; familiarity with server and virtualization technologies. Creative mindset and ability to work with agility in a fast-paced environment. Certifications

CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional (ACCP) or equivalent Aruba Certified Mobility Professional (ACMP) or equivalent ITIL v4 About UCSF

San Francisco, CA; on-site as needed Salary and benefits are subject to UC policy. The annual salary range is $113,800-$242,800 with an entry point around $139,680, depending on experience.
