Overview
The City of Alexandria is seeking a Regional Program Director (Fee Classes & Camps) for Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA). This role directs RPCA’s Fee Classes and Camps Section and the Oswald Durant Center, leading programs designed for participants of all ages and ensuring revenue recovery goals are met.
Major Areas Of Responsibility Include
Program Management (25% of position/10 hours per week) – Provide oversight and management of the daily operation of the Fee Classes & Camps section. Develop and implement annual strategic program plans, maintain class rosters, coordinate facility usage, promote programs, serve as the Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) for department contracts, develop new programs, evaluate outcomes, and manage program data in RecTrac/WebTrac.
Budget Management (25% of position/10 hours per week) – Develop annual operating budget and revenue projections, monitor expenditures, procure goods and services, manage purchase orders and invoices, and prepare monthly revenue/expenditure reports.
Leadership/Management (20% of position/8 hours per week) – Directly supervise staff, recruit and onboard personnel, conduct performance evaluations, manage timesheets, and participate in department meetings and strategic initiatives.
Facility Operations (10% of position/4 hours per week) – Ensure facilities meet quality standards, perform safety and maintenance checks, coordinate maintenance with vendors and contractors, manage center operations, and respond to after-hours needs.
Community Engagement & Outreach (10% of position/4 hours per week) – Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment, increase public awareness of programs, build relationships with community groups and partners, and represent the department at public meetings.
Other (10% of position/4 hours per week) – Provide after-hours support, cover program and facility needs, participate in trainings and department meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. Hours may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Key Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and five years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Candidates should have extensive experience in recreation programming for all ages, managing contracts, and working in/with recreation centers to maximize program quality and revenue. Other qualifications include:
Experience developing and managing operating budgets, purchase orders, and invoices.
Strong knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office, RecTrac, Kronos, Munis, and related data collection tools.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to lead and develop staff, contractors, and volunteers.
Ability to work independently, handle multiple assignments, and respond flexibly to a varied work schedule.
Successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
The Fee Classes and Camps section is a Monday-Friday operation with flexibility required for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The position supports an operating budget exceeding $1,000,000 annually and involves community engagement, program development, and revenue-focused planning.
