Overview

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization with a history of nursing excellence. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide patient care coverage in the Emergency Department seven days a week, including holidays, as the primary caregiver for observation and geriatric ED patients and other ED patients. The NP will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines and collaborate with off-site physicians within an interdisciplinary team. Under general supervision, the NP performs operational level duties as described in UCSD policies. The primary emphasis is delivering direct patient care with assignments involving chronic and/or episodic health problems. May participate in program planning and patient education materials; other related duties may be assigned. Provide patient care coverage in the Emergency Department seven days a week, including holidays. Manage care of ED observation patients and Geriatric ED patients; serve as primary caregiver for observation patients and ensure continuity of care across shifts. Follow standardized advanced practice guidelines; assess and provide medical care appropriate to patient populations based on competence and knowledge. Collaborate with off-site physicians within an interdisciplinary approach; perform operational duties in line with UCSD Performance Policy. Deliver direct patient care; manage patients with chronic and/or episodic health problems; participate in program planning and patient education as needed. Engage in related duties as assigned and maintain professional standards of practice. Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program. California RN license, California NP license, and Furnishing License Certification. National NP board certification in an aligned specialty (FNP or ENP). BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date; PALS certification. Minimum two (2) years of NP experience in an Emergency Department. Documentation proficiency with patient conditions and outcomes; knowledge of standard diagnostic tests and procedures (laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs, biopsies, GI endoscopies). Ability to perform clinical procedures independently; strong computer skills with PCIS/Epic experience preferred. Knowledge of clinical laboratory values and the ability to identify deviations. Experience providing patient education and counseling and developing treatment plans; strong patient interviewing skills. Ability to function in a fast-paced environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills with empathy and kindness. Preferred Qualifications

Five (5+) or more years of NP experience in Emergency Medicine. High-acuity triage and critical care experience. Proficiency in ED procedures (laceration repair, incision and drainage, splinting, wound management, airway support). SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Night shifts required; may cover mid or day shifts, on-call, and locations based on 24-hour center needs. Criminal background check and pre-employment physical required. Must obtain and maintain UCSD Medical Staff privileges; advanced practice experience within last two years is required due to credentialing eligibility. Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $234,545 – $234,545 (prorated if appointment
