Join our Team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Palo Alto, CA as a Physician - Chief of Gynecology!

The incumbent will be responsible for providing all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic management related to general gynecology. Medical management of abnormal bleeding including postmenopausal bleeding, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptive counseling, early pregnancy evaluation, work up of infertility, management of menopause symptoms, evaluation and management of urinary incontinence, evaluation and management of pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction. Procedures include but are not limited to removal of premalignant lesions of the vulva, treatment of Bartholin cysts, repair of cystocele and rectocele, treatment of cervical dysplasia, insertion and removal of long acting contraceptive devices (IUDs and implants). Operations include diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage, diagnostic laparoscopy, salpingectomy for treatment of ectopic pregnancy or sterilization, removal of ovarian cyst / oophorectomy, myomectomy and hysterectomy surgery procedures. Evaluation and management of gynecology patients and the incumbent will be responsible for evaluation of patients in the gynecology clinic. Consultation services will also be provided to general medicine physicians, mid-level providers, surgeons in the operating room, the emergency room and to other inpatient services. The incumbent will also supervise trainees including medical students, residents and fellows in all of these settings. The incumbent will be responsible for providing on-call services as deemed necessary according to the on-call schedule. Practices safety, environmental and / or infection control methods. Instructs other personnel assigned to health care team on preventive medicine programs and other appropriate medical activities and functions.

Responsibilities

Provide all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic management related to general gynecology.

Medical management of abnormal bleeding including postmenopausal bleeding, contraceptive counseling, early pregnancy evaluation, infertility work up, menopause symptom management, urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction.

Perform procedures including removal of premalignant lesions of the vulva, Bartholin cyst treatment, repair of cystocele and rectocele, treatment of cervical dysplasia, and insertion/removal of long-acting contraceptive devices (IUDs and implants).

Execute diagnostic and operative procedures: hysteroscopy (diagnostic and operative), dilation and curettage, diagnostic laparoscopy, salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy or sterilization, ovarian cyst removal/oophorectomy, myomectomy, and hysterectomy.

Evaluate and manage gynecology patients in the clinic and provide consultation to general medicine physicians, mid-level providers, surgeons in the operating room, the emergency room, and other inpatient services.

Supervise trainees including medical students, residents, and fellows across settings.

Provide on-call services as required by the on-call schedule.

Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods; instructs health care team members on preventive medicine programs and medical activities.

Maintain clinical activity statistics, VASQIP, and conduct quality management studies as indicated by program needs.

Manage gynecologic services in inpatient, OR, and outpatient settings; oversee Gynecology processes, access to clinic and operative services, and monitor wait times.

Develop and write policies/procedures specific to Gynecology services; participate in quality improvement activities including peer review; direct QA activities for the Gynecology Section.

Participate in educational conferences and support VA Palo Alto health care system philosophy, goals, and outreach efforts.

Benefits

Expected Salary range from $200K to $400K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience).

Work Schedule: Full time. Schedule determined by supervisor.
